covered in Queen street between Co
lumbus and Alfred streets today. It
ts a flvb-paEsenger touring car. with
yellow body and bears the District of
Columbia license number 15.741.

a big heap of striped uniforms converted
into ashes, while the prison band plays
lively tunes. The abolition of the striped
uniforms is one of the last official acts
of Warden Hoyt, who intends to resign.

LIVERPOOL, Nov 7. The Humane
Society has awarded gold medals to
Captains Trant and Barr, silver medals
to the officers of the Devonian and the
ji mania, and bronze medals and
money to the boats" crews for their
efvices in the Volturno rescues

That "Is the advice of poultry dealers
to those who wish to celebrate Thanks
giving in the accepted way. For the
big birds won't be going a-begging two
weeks from now. and the chances are
that some carving knives may be
tfhetted in vain, or else dulled on the
bones of roast chicken as a substitute.
The price at the Center Market today
Is 23 and 2S cents a pound, and Thanks
giving week it will probably be 23 and
30 cents, with the supply limited.
Chickens are steady, with fryers and
roasters at 25 cents and broilers as high
as 2S cents. Roosters are worth 13
cents a pound.
The scarcest thing at the market just
now is a first Class egg. One dealer
who supplies a high-class .trade said
this morning that he would pay 50
cents a dozen for "specials." The best
eggs on the market are going at Si
cents, and those of medium grade from
40 to 50 cents, and no relief seems to be
in sight.
Most of the vegetables now on the
market are from the South, the local
season being over. Egg plants, big as
a man's head, are worth 25 cents apiece,
and tomatoes are bringing 12 cents
a pound. .... , .

the station house 6f Alexandria await
ing advices from the Washington au
thorities as to their disposition. The
first two are fifteen years old and the
last named sixteen years old.
They left Washington yesterday
afternoon at 6 o'clock with the de
termination to go Fauth. thence to
Mexico, where they Intended -joining
the constitutionalists. Hall had a
blcjclc and the boys took turns In rid
ing over the road between Alexandria
and Washington. They reached the
Union Station about 9 o'clock last night
and spent three hours there in an ef
fort to board one of the fast passenger
trains gong south.
This they- were unable to do. They
spent the rest of the night. In a smalt
shqi used as a waltlpg room for the
electric railway trains at the I'nion
Station.
The boys were nearly frozen this
morning, and. not having any money
with which tn purchase brealtfast, en
deavored to sell the bicycle to a color
ed man. Edward Gray. The latter
carried the wheel to the station to tind
if it had been stolen, and the police
sent out word to have the boys picked
up. The youngsters declare that they
want to get back home as soon as
they can.
