SHOES MAY SOLVE
L
RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 8?Search
for a clue' to thf identity- of a fashion
ably dressed young: woman, whose
body was taken from the James river
here two weeks ajo. turned today to
St. Louis, when word came from the
headquarters of a shoe company at
Campello, Mass., that the serial num
ber In the shoes on the feet of the
woman indicated they were shipped
to a St. Louis shoe company.
Hope is expressed that the St. Louis
distributer will be able to tell in
what locality the shoes were jobbed, j
In such an event, the police believe
they will be able at least to determine
from what section of the country the
woman came.
The body was at one time identified
as that of Miss Hattie Lipscomb, of
Hopewell, Va., and a warrant was
sworn out charging- a Camp Lee of
ficer with her death, when the girl
herself turned up in Baltimore alive
and well.
The pollcc do not believe that the
dead woman came from a Virginia
city, since wide publicity has failed to
locate a relative who could identify
the body.
