Mrs. Anna Spaagler, thirtylght. a
crossing watch, sacrificed her -life, at
a point where she had warned thou
sands each day of the approach of
trains at a grade crossing.
As two engines, running backward,
approached the crossing, the woman
stepped out and raised her "Stop
signal. A gust of wind blew away her
sunbonnet and thoughtlessly the wo
man stepped forward to retrieve it.
As she was in a stooping posture, the
bumper of the tender of the forward
engine struck her violently, sending
her headlong against a plank cross
ing with such force as to fracture her
skull, dislodcred th snln nt t norl
and injured her internally. She died

hours after the accident.
