AKRON MAY HAVE FIRST CITY-OWNED BUS LINE To offset Inadequate street car serv ice in Akron. Ohio, which has earned the name of being the fastest growing city In the United Stated, the Good year Tire and Itubber Company wi start operation of a ten-car motor bi. aervicc on June 1. Akron city officials will watch t' operation of this line closely with t Idea, should it be a financial SUCCe; that it may be taken over, more buse added, and the foundation laid for municipaUy-owned transportation sy: tem by bus-?one of the first in ti. country. City officials go so far as to sugge.1 that no more extensions be made the existing trolley system, but moto bus lines be routed into all outlyin^ sections. Kstablishment of the new bus lin* was decided after a conference wit. city officials in an effort to tevlse a means of affording adequate trans portation to the 1)10.000 inhabitants who have augmented the 40,u00 shown by the 1010 census. For more than a year the Goodyear Company has operated a bus line to serve 3,000 families living in its hous ing section, with excellent results. The success of this line has attracted attention from every section of the country, and was the cause for the proposed action by the city of Akron Administration officials point out that motor bus lines can easily tap rapidly-growing suburbs without the expenditure of large sums for fran chises and equipment, as would be necessary fer trolley extension. Sub urban develepment will not be delayed by waiting for the traction company to act. The type of bus to be used In the new Akron lines will be similar to the one-man street car. Kach bus w(ll carry approximately twenty-four people, who will pay as they enter. 1) Alexandria, Va. 1621 King St. This Lovely Brick House Is a Bargain at $13,000 12 rooms, 2 baths, hot water heat, gas and clcc tricity, sleeping porch, large porch across entire front.
