Of the 157 varieties of passenger care manuf~ctured in the United States 35 come from the State of MJcb igan. Indiana is next in line with 23 passonge car factories. Ohio has 22. New York has 15, with Illinois and Pennsylvania tied at 10. Al though Michigan holds a big lead over her sister commonwealths there are 122 concerns in other States making passenger automobiles. At a recent meeting attended by representatives of the Society of Au tomotive Engineers, the American Pe troleum Institute and the National Automobile Chamber of Commerce, the following points were brought out: I. The present shortage and neces sity for increasing the price of gaso line are the result of too little drilling last year and are, therefore, only tem porary. There may be temporary shortages on the Pacific Coast and here and there throughout the coun try. 2. The figures show that of the crude oil refined last year the gaso line from each gallon %van 22 per cent. In the Eastern section It was 22 per cent; on the west coast only 12 per cent, whereas in the Mid-West. where production Is biggest, 35 per cent of gasoline was taken from each gallon of crude oil. With the East and West coast companies using the cracking process so generally used In the Mid West section, a great increase in the quantity of gasoline is assured. 3. The oil men advise the use of gasifiers; more careful designing of *hotors for greater economy in fuel donsumption; that truck users should be warned against running motors when trucks are not moving, and that carburetor adjustment for economy should be a general practice with all cars. 8.
