SAY SOTS ACTED AS OM OUSEMAID Friends WiN Testify Traction Magnate Disliked Wife for Her Social Extravaganoes NEW YORK, Feb. 1.-With the problems of managing a great trac tion system en his mind. Theodore P. Shouts was frequently forced to do hig *wn housework. This and other circumstances of the domestic life of Shouts were disclosed yesterdy in the surrogates' court by Do La-cey Nicoll, acting for execu tors of the Shouts' will, contested by the widow, Killa D. Shouts. The bulk of-the Shonts' estate was left to Mrs. Amanda Thomas. Nicoll petitioned for the appoint meat of commissioners, before whom the testimony of several witnesses for the proponents of the will may be heard in advance of the trial. Among these witnesses is Edward N. Fletch er, of Chicago. it is said that Fletcher will testify that he lived in the same house with Mr. and Mrs. Shonts in Kankakee. Ill., that he witnessed frequent vio lent quarrels between the Shontees and that Mrs. Shonts was a careless housekeeper. SAID NK HAD NO NOME Fletcher will relate that Mrs. Shonts, falling to keep the house tidy, made it necessary for Shouts fre quently to do the work himself. Shonts told Fletcher, the latter will testify, that he "never knew the meaning of the word home." Frank D. Blair, of Chicago. the pe tition recites, will testify that Shonts told him his wife was ruining him by her extravagance; that he was op posed to his daughter's marriage to the Duc de Chaulnes and that his family life "had gone to smash." Mrs. Georgiana McClurg for years private secretary to Shonts while he lived in Chicago. will testify that Mrs. Shonts's social activitieq were . a source of continuous quarrels between the couple. Shonts. Mrs. McClurg will say, did not want his wife to waste so much time and money in social activities, but Mrs. Shonts insisted on doing as she pleased. HE GREW TO DISLIKE HER. It is planned to prove that for at least ten years prior to the execu tion of the will, the relations of the Shontses were strained and that the wife's conduct induced "strong dis like and antipathy" for her on the part of her husband. This, the petition says, was one of the causes which resulted in the making of small provision for her in the will. Shonts's action was not due. it is asserted, to undue influence, an charged by Mrs. Shonts. She insisted on living in hotels and traveling in foreign countries, most of the time apart from Shonts will be testified. NEWS OF ALEXANDRIA AND NEARBY VIRGINIA Officers for Year Are Elected By Y.
