yan a F*e n Me s Cre e t -y EUGE R. BILDY. AlNfAPOLIE, Feb. 24. - The game here Saturday be the Naval and Military acad rul bring to the srface all 1 elt sivalry between the service nd lromies such in the east. ea playing. The re the two teams give little af comparative strength. have bad long schedules, and won some creditable games. The 116 Army sbedftdteam tree times, but the latter has met more strong In believed here that the Navy .est of the advantages and Is y to win. It will play on the ourt. probably more of an ad vaptage' In basketball than in any ether apert, and will have the encour agqmet of the whole regiment of m1 gaaiiea. Point will not lack backers, for Army people from Washing ton. Qhp Meade and other' nearby points will be here, but they cannot hope to equal the rooting of 2,000 lusty-hanged midshipmen. ARMY HAS SLUMPED. It has also been noted that the Army ihas apparently slumped wl hin the last few weeks. and has. been beaten or given a close run by teams not believed to be in the class of the servies fives. On the ether hand, the Navy tak has been coming along with increasing strength and speed, and will undoubtedly be ready to play te best game of the season on attirda. It wtl be. the first time the service etp4i have met in this sport at An til s ,and the second game ever to be played between the two. Last year, the series was inaugurated when the midshipmen went to West Point and won. he midshipmen now have behind theta the impulse of this victory, two in'football and two in baseball, and a spleniid record in all branches. Natval morals Is very high and strong these days. but the Army also knows how to put up the best fight in it. Of interest is the fact that rivals on the football field will meet. <A lb d n RTE INavy BABE RUTH GROWS WIDER hme tbeis the al tigiye lkattle to a as alsee Oro et the mest dymiatl .me.ats in all the eIs twjo aport will came*ls psle" ble "at home ru over the triple dusk grad stand d the Yanks' sew perk some time absut the last of April, 1982. There is general batlifaction ove' the selection of Deering and Ortner. coaches at Columbia and Cornell re spectively as the officials of the game. All along there has been some nerv ousness here as to that phase of the contest. West Point has a heavier team than the Navy and it is ynderstood that it plays a terrifhr game. and that its players tend to do a good many things which a competent offieial would class as fouls. The Navy team, on the contrary, banks on its passing game. Fear that a careless official would overlook many acts properly called fouls has been allayed by the selection of Messers. Deering and Ortner. The line-up for the Navy will be: left forward, Byerly; right forward, McKee; center, Ault; left guard, Watters (captain); right guard. Parr. The principal substitutes are: for wards, Barnes. Lenhart and Blue; center. (reber, guards, Lyons and Dickins. West Point is expected to start as follows: left forward, Vis chules; right forward. French; center, Dabezies; left guard, Pfeiffer; right guard. Kessler. TWO NORE CLASHES. In spite of the main attraction, two fine events the same afternoon can not he overlooked. In fact, It was partly to attract some sport lovers and prevent overcrowding at the bas ketball game, that the boxing with Pennsylvania State and the wrestling against the University of West VIr ginia were arranged. The boxing with Penn State will almost certainly decide the intercol legiate supremacy for the year,' both teams having defeated all their op ponents up to this time. The boxers of both teams are well coached and are hard hitters. and the finest kind of bouts are promised. While the midshipmen expect to win from West Virginia on the mat, the showing of Hough, tl:e visiting captain who wrestled two years for the Naval Academy, is awaited with interest. He will meet "Reds" Sin clair in the 125-pound class, and a rattling bout Is assured. WASHINGTON CLUB HELPS HOBLITZEL IN READING Reading means to go out after the international League flag this season and has a lot of help already from the Washington Club. with more to come. It had a ball club with a punch last year, but it was not concentrated. Under the guidance of Dick Ioblitzel the Barons should finish higher in the rAce. Hobby has been told to go out and get a real ball club. Ills hands will not be tied financially. Reading backers realize that they must pro duce a good combination or suffer at the gate. Although Hoblitzel will not take his players to the training camp until March 21, he has t pretty fair ball club at the present time. Here are some of the men who will get a try out before the season begins: Pitchers-- Craft and Fisher, secured from Washington ; Swartz. Holmes, Barnhardt. Brown. Barries, Karpp, Huttenstein and Eyrieh. (atchers Mike Konnick, Askerman and Vernsky. First. Base-Hobi tae4..... Hlughie Duffy has tailed to convince Pratt that he would do well to play with the Red Sox, and Del, having is sued a call for candidates at Michi yan, has been rewarded with fifty recruits. He has begun indoor work with hin players and -hopes to have them out on the diamond very short ly.
