FB EE STATEIS PREMIER'S EDLE Irish Ministers, However, See Change If Tortas Cain Power. By DENIS O'CONNELL, I'nlvrrusl ???t???. DUBLIN, Oct. ?0.??"Ireland la no longer a pawn In British politics," wa? th? statement made to me today by ministers of the Free State cabi net. "The British government can re alen, but It haa no effect on our policy. " For the first time since 1800, when th? act of union was passed, Ireland will not return a member of the British Imperial Parliament. I brought this fact to the attention of the ministers tonlgtit when they were discussing the newest angles of the political situation. President Cosgrave declared: "It will be a reminder to the peo ple that Ireland has won almost com plete freedom, becaua? we are no longer a part of th? British House of Commons." But with all the Government's optimism there Is an under current of feeling that In the event the "die hards" In England are returned It may result In t*he treaty being turn ed down. The Irish constitution is just nearlng the completion stage and must be submitted to the British government before December ?. Otherwise the whole pact goes by the board. The Irish ministers who have car ried the constitution through, the dull in the form which they believe will be acceptable to Lloyd Oeorge, ?re not perturbed, though they are putting the most favorable construc tion on the new turn of events. In the event of a "die hard" gov ernment there Is no doubt that the constitution would be turned down in Ita present form, although It would be acceptable to Lloyd Oeorgo and Austin Chamberlain. Should such a contingency arise. Ireland might possibly again become a political unity, but It would be onlv after endless years of war, but through the treaty the Irish people are better equipped for war than ever before, according to opinion In Dub lin official circle?.
