While it is liiipoNMii.li. to make a check of in juries to children for any stated periods in the past, officials of the Washington safety committee aro of the opinion that thla Is conclu sive proof of tho efficiency of the campaign. From a review of the Yecords in 1921 lt is probable that there were more thun 2,400 Injuries to child ren during that period, or a dally average of seven. The fact that the record during the campaign Khows a clean slate so far as In juries to children la concerned, is moat gratifying to those In charge of the work. So far not a death has been re corded during the campaign as against an average of one dally during 1921; Injuries reported to date total twelve aa against an av erage of twenty-one during the ?same period In 1921. Incorporatola of the Washington Safety Council, a permanent organ ization to promote atrfety here, nre busily engaged in laying plans for the future. It is announced how ever, that more funds are needed with which to tarry on the wotk ?and an appead la made to the busi ness men of Washington for con tributions. In the Treasury, besides watching over Uncle Sam's money coffers and checking up pay rolls, employes are preparing for their demonstration In the safety week parade to be held Friday. Shoulder to shoulder with the men, women employee have entered the spirit of the occasion and are using every spare moment to carry the "Don't Get Hurt" slo gan into every room of the depart ment. Subcommittees, comprised of two members, a man and a woman, have been appointed to direct the work of the several branches of the safety campaign. They are: Motor transport. Charles A. Eighty marchers, dressed in white uniforms will represent the Treas ury Depsrtment. At intervals dur ing the parade a special chorus will ?sing a song composed for the oc casion by Isabel Linkens Gates. Keen competition Is expected be tween the Government department marchers, and each unit Is making special preparations for the event. Three prises awarded are to be for the beat division, the best group of marchers and the best float, and the best band among the Gov ernment units represented. A call has been issued by Ralph Jenkins, chairman of the District of Columbia Chapter, American Red Croes, for members of the life saving corps in the District ?and vicinity to participate In the parade. During the argument Swan got both cheeks cut, which took fifty-two stitches, and Gordon, who "slipped" against Swan's knife, got thirty-six. Oscar W. Mansfield, Second precinct detective, arriving on the scene, arrested the negroes. Swan was merged with assault with dangerous weapon, on an alleged confession, and Gordon put up $50 collateral on a charge of running a gaming table. The money was for feited. Today, in Assistant United States Attorney Ralph Given'? office, Gordon appeared and de clared that he would not prose cute the case against Swan, declaring that "it was only thirty-six stitches, and it was my fault as much as his."
