[CALLMAINI 5260—“' ITLINTI RUB) WITH ■ Os [US Make Merry in Hotel Lobbies and Streets—Golf Tourna ment is Feature. ATLANTA, Ga„ July 9.—Conver sation, if any, in Atlanta hotel lob bies today was mainly in the sign language. Bands of visiting Elks delegations stridently insisted that they had no bananas, while quartets and glee clubs leaned over mezza nine railings to inform any of the curious how dry they were. It was evident that the national reunion of B. P. O. E. was well under way. Nor were any of the arrivals mod cat regarding their membership in the Elks or the place of their home herd. It was emblazoned on bands and bass drums, on badges the size of soup plates and on banners, on neckties and knickknacks. One salesman did a good business in frarters bearing the Elks emblem where no metal can touch you. Purple shirts with box car letter ing were considered quite chic. More than 12,000 Elks and their wives had registered early today. Many more were too busy for that formality.* The reception committee believed that the total would be 35,- 000 before night and 50,000 by to morrow afternoon. Elk golfers contended in three groups of various handicappings over Atlanta courses today. Busi ness sessions will get under way to night, with the only public session in the civic auditorium. 1 Births, Deaths I Phone Main 5260 Until 2 P. If. Obituary Desk ELIJAH E. KNOTT.
