As the Mozart String Quintette concluded their request program from WCAP and as the last meas ures of the selection were being played the announcer broke in and explained to us all about the musicians; by the courtesy of what company they were allowed to play; the coming program'and an entirely uninteresting rlgermarole. while be hind his voice one could catch only snatches of the music. And again, during the playing of Victor Her bert’s “Badinage,” the same voice broke-in and ruined the last part. Os course yesterday was a strong day for Christmas music. Every station that broadcasted at all gave some Christmas carols, but some of the larger stations, including our own local stations, struck the the happy medium by adding va riety to a delightful program. Classical music other than Christ mas carols, popular songs, jazz orchestras and talks were all crowded into the programs through our own stations. They made a supreme effort and gave us truly wonderful programs. Yesterday morning at about 6 o’clock we were bustling around getting ready to go to church when it struck us to try the radio and with a few touches we got an early service from Zion City, 111. Last night, in a variety program from WSBC, Chicago, we heard sev eral of the medley selections by Mildred White. She must have used everyone of the ivories on the key board. and the nambers came through fine. JUf ■ MS FICEIBREST Co-operation of the citizens of the District in the enforcement of the recently adopted pedestrian control regulation was demanded today by Maj. Edwin B. Hesse, superintend ent of police. The ten-day educational period has come to an end, the police chief points out, and all pedestrians should, by this time, have become acquainted with the regulation. Four policemen have been sta tioned at various points throughout the District to teach pedestrians how to obey the signals of the crossing officer. • Violators have been warned and requested to stay on the pavement until the signal says “Go.” Major Hesse said that in so far as the regulation has been adopted it is up to him to enforce it, and un less pedestrians abide bj the rule arrests will be made.
