local papers, will be judges.

Harry P. White, president of the
Northeast Business Men’s Associa
tion, which organization is staging
tonight’s big carnival, has given out
the following messaga to the people
of Washington:
‘Tonight Northeast Washington
goes another step forward. The new
lights on H Street, the main thor
oughfare of the section, will be
turned on. This street will in the
future be as brilliantly lighted as
any avenue in Washington.
“We of the Northeast will be
proud tonight. This great section,
with its tens of thousands of peo
ple, is growing in greater propor
tions, I believe, than any other sec
tion in the National Capital.
“Northeast Wasnington is a city
in itself. _H Street is our ‘down
town’ district, in which there are
shops to meet every family need
and theater facilities to provide al!
necessary entertainment. Watch
Northeast Washington! -
“We invite every resident of
Washington to join with us tonight
in our great celebration. We prom
ise the visitors a real good time.
And while they are in the North
east, we want them to look over
our section and learn of its many
advantages.’*
For several months a special
committee has been at work day
and night making plans for to
night’s celebration. Neither time
nor money has been spared to make
the demonstration a big success.
Long before the parade and car
nival was thought of, hdwever, the
association was working for bet
ter lighting on H Street. Petitions
were sent to the District Commis
sioners and personal visits were made
to the District Building in the in
terest of the new lights. The as
sociation recently won its battle
for better lights and decided to
stage a carnival in celebration.

-estate man, is general chairman of
the committee in charge. W. R.
Lewis is chairman of the parade
committee; Clarence Poston, music
committee; Dr. Robert W. McCul
lough, publicity committee; Frank J.

for a ride, which ended when the
machine crashed into a pile of rocks
on the curbing of Lancaster Pike
near Church Road.
