14 a hit IT mo, OB One woman is dead and several Other persons were seriously in jured as a result of last night s traffic accidents. Struck by an automobile at Georgia Avenue and Varnum Streets Northwest, Mrs. Augusta Rowe 69 of 4308 Georgia Ave N. W.. died early today in Garfield Hospital. The car that hit her was operated by Gordon E. Arnett. 4800 Georgia Ave N W. She died of a frac tured skull and fractured collar -bone. An inquest will be held to- morrow. , The seriously injured are Mrs. Ida Berman, 55, of 1101 Euclid St. N. W., and Mrs. Elizabeth Bassett, 88, of 1309 Ninth St. N. W. The former was struck by a Washing ton Rapid Transit Co. bus at Four teenth and Irving Streets North went. At Garfield Hospital she was found -to be suffering from four fractures of the left leg. The latter suffered a fracture of the hip and severe injuries to the body when - knocked down in front of her home bv a Washington Railway & Elec tric Co. street car. She is in Emer gency Hospital. . • , When an automqbile operated oy Charles E. Cannon, 34, 1108 Colum bia Rd. N*. W., hit a tree at Thir teenth and E Streets Northwest, Cannon, Mrs. Mary A. Cannon 34, and Mrs. Madge Trouland, 36. o9<»8 Fourteenth St. N. W., were all injured. Cannon suffered a possible fracture of the left ankle and lacera tions to the legs and face and Mrs. Trouland was treated for a broken arm and several fractured ribs. Barron N. Jacobs 79, of the Brighton Hotel, 2123 California St. N W., suffered a fracture of the left leg when he was struck near his home by an automobile ated by Mary P. Crane, of 3720 Northampton St., Chevy Chase. He is in an undetermined condition in Emergency Hospital. A soldier and nurse from Walter Reed Hospital miraculously escaped injury when the ambulance on which they were riding turned over three times after a collision at Six teen Street and Spring Road North west. The ambulance, on the way for a patient, was operated by Pvt. Harry W. Reed. 24, and occu pied by Miss Sophie E. Mickie weiz, a nurse. AIR SQUADRON RE-FORMED The War Department announced yesterday that the Fifteenth Ob servation Squadron, which has been temporarily inactive and without planes or personnel, has been ordered reformed at Selfridge Field.
