Tha Kell Syndicate. Inc.) f Blanton Senate Aims Delight Foes Here Many officials, in both the Federal and District Governments, breathed sighs of relief today over the announcement by Representative Thomas L. Blanton of Texas that he will run for-the Senate next fall. Representative Blanton's an-< nouncement means that he will not run for re-election in the House, and that if he loses in the Senatorial race, he will no longer be a member of either house. Government officials believe that Blanton will lose in his race for the Senate, but even if he wins, they believe he will not have the time or the inclination in the Senate to delve into the personal investigations in the same way he has as a member of the House. This inclination on Blanton's part to “investigate” any official at any time who crosses his path has kept more than one Government official awake at night during recent years. This is particularly true since his famous investigation of District Com missioner Frederick A. Fanning, the ousting of whom added considerably to Blanton’s prestige. Other officials who at one time or another incurred the wrath of the Texas Representative are Col. C. O. Sherrill, former director of public buildings and parks; Dr. William A. White, superintendent of St. Eliza beth's Hospital, and more recently, Herbert D. Brown, chief of the Bureau of Efficiency, with whom Blanton is now at odds. At the same time, there are many officials and clerks who re gret Blantons decision and would dislike to see him out of Con gress. because the Texan is as famous a defender as a prosecutor. He has been particularly friendly with policemen and firemen who believed they were being unfairly treated. He led the fight for the restoration of rank to Inspector Albert J. Headley, and he is now an ardent friend of Assistant Traf fic Director M. O. Eldridge, who was demoted after the traffic light scandal.
