and North appeared to have the
front aeata on the radio hand
wagon last evening and delivered
program* with excellent volume
and clarity. Reception was good
from almost all sections and inter
ference appeared to be at a mini
mum, although fading was rather
annoying with stations that are
regular faders.
Utilising a reformed motion pic
ture star as its soprano soloist and
one of the younger and newer Rus
sian baritones from the Metropoli
tan Opera Company to help her and
tha band and orchestra deliver Span
ish music—Geparal Motors last
evening provided loud speakers with
the most consistent and pleasing
programs of its season on the sound
wave lengths.
Dolores Cassinelli deserted pic
tures two years ago to launch her
self on a concert career. Possessed
of a voice of pleasing quality, fair
range and flexibility, she has the
ability to use it in away that ap
proximates most of the emotional
ideas of the composers she chooses
to interpret. Her singing is neither
remarkable for any special quality
of tone or Its use, but it has great
charm and pleases her audiences
completely. /
The same qualities were ob
served in George Cehanovaky. the
baritone—the quality of { giving
pleasure to listeners rather than
extraordinary ability as at' musician
or an artist. The two s ngere ap
peared to be enjoying their work
and put much of their joy ia it.

tinctive feature of the concert was

edy. These playlets, humanizing
historical events of importance in
the development of America, nre
among the most important features
of radio presentation—both from ah
educational and an artistic stand
point. We hope they will be re
sumed in a very short time, as indi
cation was given they would be.
Pauline Healey made the most of
her brief opportunity from WMAL
during the middle evening and
pleased her ft-lends with her expert
way ,of singing popular songs. She
demonpitrated some rather fine,
rich rones in the middle register
of her voice that might he used
more and made to interpret the
poetry of song in an even more
striking way than this popular
singer has done before.
