6 NEWS AND GOSSIP OF WASHINGTON SOCIETY How Many Ambassadors Will President yolidge Find Awaiting His Return? ' ♦ Two New Envoys Have Been Named Already; Others Probable Just how many ambassa dors will President Coolidge | '-find awaiting his return from Brule? Last year when he came back from the Black Hills he found two standing on his doorstep, frock-coated and high-hatted, ready for him to' give them the recognition that would make them their governments* representatives. These were the Chilean Ambassador, Senor Davila, and the Belgian Ambassador, ‘His Highness .Prince Albert de Ligne, both of whom were L given the approving hand in October. Two Envoys Thus far there are .two lined Up for the presidential home coming—the ambassador from Japan, Katsuji Debuchi, and the envoy from Argentina, Dr. Emanuel Malbran, who was named in the spring to succeed the former ambassador, Honono de Pueyrredon. There has been a report that the Italian ambassador, Giacomo de Martino, would be replaced by Count Volpi, who has re cently completed three years as minister of finance in the Mus solini cabinet, being relieved from this duty by 11. Duce on July 10. This gave rise to the rumor that Count Volpi would realize an ambition to be ris ’ country’s representative in Washington. > Count Volpi Was the head of the-Italian delegation to Wash ington. a few years ago, that no gotiated the funding of the Italian debt to this country. Mew* From Peru Then, m the news a few dgys ago was the report of a shake-up in tfie Peruvian cabinet. And usually when such an upheaval takes place it means changes in the diplomatic representatives of g country. So it is possible that there will be a successor to Dr. Hernan Ve larde, the present Peruvian Am bassador: Dr. Velarde is next to the British Ambassador in rank now, and he would be the dean of the diplomatic corps should he be here when another envoy is sent from Great Britain. e ♦ • From Newport The Rumanian minister, Mr. Cretziano, will return to Washing » ton today from Newport, R. 1., where he has been the guest of Mrs. Duncan Camerbn, of Wash ington, who has a cottage there for the season. ♦ ♦ ♦ Representative and Mrs. Fred Britten were the honor guests at dinner last evening of Mr. and Mrs. Frederic D.
