THE WASHINGTON TIMES DOG BEGINS ROW JUDGEENDSIT The relative size of two sticks, weapons used in a fight between tWo women who quarreled over a small dog, proved a factor in the dismissal of an assault charge by Judge John P. McMahon in Police Court yesterday. Mrs. Laura Goldshorough, the 1200 block C St. S. E.. the com plainant. told the court that her neighbor, Mrs. Betty Mayhew, came at her with ferocious intent, wield ing a stick. Later, fists were used, hair was pulled, and Mrs. Goldsbor ough was choked, she charged. Mrs. Mayhew said she acted in self defense and admitted doing the choking. She testified that her neighbor approached her first and pulled her hair “something fierce.” The defendant produced both sticks. The one alleged to have been held by Mrs. Goldsborough was much larger than the other and had two nails in it. Judge McMahon dismissed the ca se. The question hae been asked thousands of times, without receiving a definite answer. Ten prominent authors repre sented in the Cosmopolita.n Mag azine this month underwent ex amination in an attempt to settle the problem. Seven of them trained in news paper offices before becoming suc cessful in the field of the short story and novel. Most of them attained literary recognition after they were 30 years old. Irvin S. Oct. 17.—Police today were investigating last night’s four bombings, two of which were laid to “racketeers.” The first bomb was exploded on the rods of the Illinois Battery Com pany in Irving Park Boulevard, re sulting in damage estimated at ap proximately |SOO. A few minutes later the Kennard Shoe Store in West Roosevelt Road was bombed, but the damage here was confined to the windows. The third explosion reported was at a General Tire Company store in South Michigan Avenue. Show windows were shattered. Kostka Brothers’ battery shop in South Crawford Avenue received the fourth bomb. Damage here was estimated at about SSOO. Both the Illinois battery and Kostka Brothers reported they be lieved union trouble the cause : for their places being bombed. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBCT 17, I*2S ass GONE WITH GRIP Joseph Sotus and his wife, resi dents of Ohio, saved for years to accumulate funds with which to visit their native Greece. They succeeded and started from New York. Today the trip has been delayed indefinitely. Yesterday Sotus and his wife stopped off in this city en route to New York. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Theone G. Roushakes, of the 1909 block of Calvert St. N. W. Last night they instructed a serv ant to place their grips in an auto mobile, and started for Union Sta tion. A check up on their baggage at the station revealed that a grip containing bonds and jewelry valued at $3,465 had been left on the side walk In front of the Roushakes residence. Sotus hurried back to the residence and found that the grip had disappeared. He appealed to police to find the grip as soon as possible so. they could complete their hard-earned trip.
