It will be the first attempt of auch an enterprise, and, if suc cessful will mark a useful devel opment in aviation, according to Navy experts. An especially constructed plane has just been completed at the Navy’s Philadelphia aircraft factory. The machine has been equipped with safety hooks attached to the upper wing, which are to engage a trapeze arrangement to be built onto the bottom of the Los An geles. With the airplane fastened - to the swinging bar on the bottom of the dirigible, the giant blimp will take the air. When going at a speed above 40 knots the air plane will be started. As it gains in speed over that of the dirigible the hooks will be automatically disengaged. Judge Halts His Court To Shake Hero’s Hand SHANGHAI, Oct. 17.—Spectators in Judge Wong’s division of the provisional court cheered recently when the judge stepped down from the bench to shake the hand of an English detective inspector, and to praise the courage of the latter. I Episcopal Sidelights The House of Bishops, meeting 4 in the small ballroom of’ the Willard, differs from most con vention assemblies in that each bishop is seated at a small table, which is usually" littered with pamphlets, mjmeographed state ments, books and newspapers. The bishops attract, by far, the biggest gallery of any body in the convention. Rows of chairs at the rear of the hall are con stantly filled, mostly with women visitors. They sit. these women, hour after hour, listening to highly technical discourses on ecclesias tical matters which no uninitiated layman possibly could understand. On one occasion, when a par ticularly interesting phase of prayer book revision was under discussion, the sotto voce con versations between the bishops be came so loud that one of their number arose and protested to the presiding bishop. "There is so much noise in here,’’ he said, "that the people in back cannot hear what the speaker is saying.” Up rose Bishop Thomas Casady, of the diocese of Olkahoma. "They’re not missing anything,” he assured his brother bishop. Presiding Bishop John Gardner • Murray, although venerable in appearance, has a quick, quaint wit. Presiding at a joint session of the bishops and deputies in the D. A. R. Hall, Bishop Murray was privately wondering how soon a long - winded and enthusiastic speaker would continue to hold the rostrum. AL ANO RUBY IN N.Y.,RUMOR- NEW YORK. Oct. 17.—Whether Al Jolson and his bride, Ruby Keeler, foremost among tap dancers, were here, in Paris or on the ocean was Broadway’s biggest mys tery today. The mammy alnger’s new mother in-law. Mrs. Nellie Keeler, was on the pier. The He de France came in but the honeymooners did not. Nor was there any message from them. Mrs. Keeler refused to believe the pair was not aboard the French liner and entrenched herself in the main saloon 'with the avowed in tention of "waiting for them.” Maurice Chevalier, the Al Jolaon of France, told Mrs. Keeler that Al and Ruby had missed the boat and showed her e radiogram from the blackfade comedian saying they had missed the boat by six hours. There are some along the main stem, however, who whisper that Jolson and the cute Ruby slipped off the liner unobserved.
