Congress will be urged by the Board of Education to appropriate half a million dollars Immediately for the eare and treatment of the District’s tubercular children. After Mrs. Ernest. R. Grant had pointed out the necessity of 24-hour treatment for the youngsters at a meeting yesterday, the board voted to aid the Association for the Pre vention of Tuberculosis in its cam paign .for a "hospital. The action was taken on the recommendation of Dr. Frank W. Ballou, superin tendent of schools. The body decided to make a more thorough examination of the needs of the various communities before authorizing expenditure of |IOO,OOO set aside by Congress to be used In ithprovlng the grounds of the schools. The buildings and grounds com mittee already has recommended the placing of fences on the cam puses of the Brightwood, Tuesdell, Armstrong, Yovejoy, New Bell, Bruce, Burroughs, and Bancroft, schools. No decision was reached after discussion of the best disposition to make of the present Business High School Building when that institu tion is given a new structure. The colored members of the bokrd op posed a proposal to use the prop erty for a colored elementary school. The lack' of a playground is their principal objection. An investigation was ordered of a complaint by Miss G. R. Simp son. a colored high school teacher, over the alleged practice of intimi dating teachers in collecting funds for testimonials and banquets for colored school officials.
