CHICAGO WAITS TAX SCANDAL ‘BLOW OFF’ ' By JAMES L. KILGALLEN CHICAGO, Aug. 24. (1.N.5.), With four prominent politicians already involved—one of them the Mayor of the city—Chicago’s in come tax scandal was “the talk of the town” today. Everywhere the question was being raised: “Who next?” Those named to date in pub lished stories are: Paid $105,000 Mayor Edward J. Kelly, who , admitted last week that in May, 1932, he was compelled to make an income tax settlement with the United States Government by paying between $105,000 and SIIO,OOO on income he failed to report for the years 1926, 1927 and 1928. Patrick A. Nash, Democratic boss of Chicago, and political and personal friend of Mayor Kelly, of whom it was charged yesterday that Nash paid SIOB.- 000 tax and penalty to the Gov ernment August 7, 1930, on un reported personal income and $77,000 on unreported income of Ithe Nash Brothers contracting firm, of which he is a partner. Nash Peevish Nash was indignant when re porters located him this morning as he was boarding a train for Springfield, the capital, to at tend the State fair. He said: “You’re a bunch of liars. Get away from me. I won’t talk to you.” As if to emphasize his com mand he lightly touched the re porter’s nose with his cigar. DOGAS NOBiL AFTER GALE Washington’s waterfront settled back into the routine of bartering melons and fish after a day of havoc. The docks today resembled those of New Orleans, with tiny craft looking down on the city. The City of Washington, the larg est boat In today, looked like a sky-scraper from the flooded wharves. The playgrounds of the city, in Potomac Park, are literal swamps. Hains Point is flooded, in many points the sea-wall being invisible. The Welfare and Recreation Society lost a speed boat in the tidal basin, while a second boat, a small one with an electric motor, turned over at her moor ings. Small boat owners from all sec tions of the city visited the water front today, but found slight damage. The boys picked it up and took it to the Eleventh precinct for ex hibition. But there’s no doubt about the fact that they expect it back.
