8 COUNTY P.U.C. POST GOES TO MAGRUDER ARLINGTON COURT HOUSE, Va., Nov. 30.—J. Maynard Ma gruder, of 1605 North Danville St., Lyon Village, Arlington county, an insurance agent, has been appointed by the Arlington County Board of Commissioners to fill the vacancy on the county public utility commission recently created through the resignation of C. E. Simmons, of Ballston. Mr. Magruder’s appointment is expected to result in immediate activities on the part of the county PUC, since chairman Albert M. Jones has been await ing the appointment to instigate Investigation into the rates of several of the utilities in the county. Among those to be investigated are the Virginia Public Service Company, whose rates have long been considered “exorbitant and Inconsistent” in comparison with those charged by the Braddock Light Company, a subsidiary of the Potomac Electric Power Com pany, which serves part of the county at a much cheaper rate than that charged by the Virginia utility. The gas and telephone rates in the county are also in line for Investigation. Matters disposed of at a meet ing here Saturday included sev eral zoning requests, which were handled according to recom mendations of the board of zoning appeals; all routine business such as the minutes and the payroll, and acceptance of reports from the various departments of the county.
