BOETTIGE-RS
STOP BRIEFLY
IN CHICAGO
flpnelal to The Washington Um**
CHICAGO, Dec. I.—Elated over
hl« forthcoming return to the
newspaper business, John Boetti
ger, newly appointed publisher of
the Seattle Post-Intelligencer,
stopped briefly in Chicago yester
day evening with Mrs. Boettiger,
the former Anna Roosevelt, daugh
ter of the President.
Boettiger, back in the city where
for 13 years, his fellow-newspaper
men knew him as “John," ex
claimed:
“It’s great to be back In Chi
cago. ”
As for his plans as head of the
Hearst newspaper in Seattle, he
reserved his comment.
Mrs. Boettiger, radiant and
smiling, spoke happily of the pros
pect of living in the Washington
metropolis, and declared:
“I love Seattle.”
The couple were met by Dr.
Louis E. Schmidt, an old friend
of Boettiger. They dined inform
ally at the Schmidt home and left
for the West at 11 p. m.

RULING DUE
Settlement of the Takoma
Street car-bus controversy is ex
pected to be made by the Public
Utilities Commission this week.
Acting on a petition of the Cap
ital Transit Company proposing
abandonment of the Takoma car
line, via Fourteenth Street North
west, and the substitution of bus
service, the Commission conducted
a public hearing several weeks ago.
The deadline for filing briefs in
the case was passed today.
The commission, it is expected,
will decide in favor of the sub
stitution of busses, although sev
eral groups urged that the car
line be retained. Several briefs
have been filed advocating routes
to be established for the busses.
The only route unanimously agreed
upon is that for a shuttle bus
operating between Fourteenth
Street and Colorado Avenue
Northwest, over the streets now
traveled by the cars to the Ta
koma terminal.
William A. Roberts, former
People’s Counsel, on behalf of a
group of Ninth street Northwest
business men, has urged the busses
be run down Ninth Street from
Vermont Avenue because of traffic
congestion along Thir tee nt h
Street. This move is opposed in
another brief filed by several
northwest civic and business as
sociates, which favors operation
of busses in the downtown section
through Thirteenth Street.
