749 TESTS FIND 102 WRONG ARLINGTON COURT HOUSE. Va., Dec. 3.—More than 100 pieces of measuring and weighing ap paratus in public businesses in Ar lington were found to be defective in a county-wide inspection Just completed, it was revealed here today in a report submitted to County Manager Frank Hanra han by E. M. Moreland, inspector of weights and measures for Ar lington county. Termed the “most accurate” in spection made here in years, the report showed a total of 749 in spections made by Mr. Moreland with the assistance of State offi cials and some equipment from the District of Columbia. One of the heavy trucks used to inspect coal and other heavy scales in the District was loaned to Arlington to check such scales in the county. Breaking the total inspection figure down, Mr. Moreland re ported that 302 store scales had been inspected, 14 heavy scales, 291 gas pumps, 51 grease pumps, 88 kerosene pumps and three mis cellaneous pumps. Os the total Inspection there were 102 defect ive instruments, and 647 check ing accurate. Each of the 102 were ordered corrected and a second check made later revealed that all but three had been made accurate. The three that could not be made ac curate were condemned. Commenting on the inspection. Mr. Moreland stated that in all instances the defects could be attributed to carelessness and not to any intent to deceive the pub lic. Mr. Hanrahan, who termed the inspection the most accurate made here in recent years, said that periodical tests would follow.
