14 REPORT URGES MORE AIRSHIPS Interval lonal News Service Immediate development of Ughter-than-air craft for both commercial and military purposes was recommended today by a spe cial committee of the Commerce Department’s business advisory council. In a report to Secretary of Com merce Roper, the committee urged action in this direction by the Maritime Commission, which has power to determine if Government ■ubsidies should be extended for construction of aircraft engaged in foreign commerce. The committee, headed by Sam-1 nel P. Wetherill, Philadelphia engi neering company head, and con sisting of Robert G. Elbert, New York; Gill Robb Wilson, Charles E. Rosendahl and Garland Fulton, met with Commerce Department officials last month to canvass current Ughter-than-air craft needs ot the United States. The report said: “We feel that the United States should not remain idle and that immediate action is necessary if American business interests are to avoid losing ground in this demonstrated form of modern oceanic aerial transportation.’* HECHT CO.
