The elections in ten S ate* last week re
sulted s follows: New York elected with
one exception, the democratic tS-ate ticket,
and a republican legislature; New Jersey
6,000 democratic majority; Pennsylvania
republican ; Virginia 20,000 democratic,
the dec ocrats getting the legislature bv a
b*>ut a two-thirds on joint ballot; Maryland
democratic by 10,(HK); Mississippi demo
cratic; Massachusetts, Connecticut, Minne
sota and Nebraska republican.
At a recent marriage of Miss Gertrude
Tucker, daughter of the Hon. Randolph ,
Tucker, of Virginia, to Mr. Logan of New
York, one of the presents was a pair of silver
candl sticks, formerly owned by Lady Sjmt
ti-w x«l, wife of Virginia’s old colonial Gov
j truor. Mr. Tucker's nephew is rector of St.
Paul’ in Nor "lk, and has in his church
,t*udv the chair in which John Hancock

conducting a protracted meeting at Kablev
town for two weeks past, resulting in over
