A medicine that has done more tban all the pre* ?criptiooB of the pharmacopeia to protect the ha man system against the bodi ly ills bu per induced by unhealthy surroundings, is certainly worthy of tlnijrersal confidence. It is mainly on account of j ilo extraordinary preventive properties that Bos totter'4 ?tomach Bitters is so expeedinglj popular in localities subject to the visitation of miasmatic fevers and other diseases produced by empoisoned mir. A family that has escaped ?:ckn. *s-during a I sickly season in consequence of using- th^ Bitters ' as a safeguard, is a living ,advertisement of the virtues of the'preparation. The whole neighbor hood realise tbe fact. "I couldn't have believed it," says one. . **1 scarcely credited tbe advertisements; but one must believe what one sees,*' aays another. ?'It is the very thing we need in this unwholesome section of tbe country ." remarks a third. And the . ' result is that tbe instinct of self defence, the first. law of nature, induces three-fourths of that com munity to obtain a supply of the great vegetable - antidote before tbe next sickly season sets in. In * winter, wheu tbe system requires extra rigor and elasticity to enable it to baffle tbe effects of damp and cold, the Bitters will be found particularly serviceable. Rheumatism will not be apt to fasten upon muscles and nerves that have been braced np by this excellent invigorant and nervine ; nor will the severities of the season, which have such a dis astrous effect on the pulmonary organs of the feeble and delicate, be likely to exercise tbe same un toward influences in cases where the stomach and ths external surfece of tbe body (which always sympathizes with the digestive orgsns) hare bees toned and stimulated by a courseo7 the restorative.
