Tschudy advertise a large quantity of peach baskets. Now is the time to buy. Six culprits made tbe acquaintance of tbe county pillory and whipping post at New Castle last Saturday ; included among them were the Wilmington incendiaries. A little boy, 2} years old, son of J B Ross, of Wyoming, was drowned in the pond near that place last week, in sight of his mother who was unable to render him any assist He was playing in a boat and fell over ance board. The person who will commence pitching •qneiu at six o'clock in the morning is rather excusable; bat tbe man who will keep np that game nntil nine o'clock at night is the •one whom Barnum is looking for and all the 'world wishes to see. lFound. The body of tbe man who fell overboard from the steamship Indiana, in the Delaware, a few weeks ago was found by a Jersey fisher mmn «a Thursday. 8L Ime'i Church. A change has been recently made in tbe hours of servil« at St Aane's P E Church, and they are, now, as follows ;—Sunday 10 A M, and 6:30 P M : Friday, 5PM Sunday iScheol 9 AM. V 'Pulnfui Accident. Mr Samuel Desbane, living near Chesa peake City, Md, was thrown from his dear born at tbe railroad crossing in Middle'own, on Thursday morning, and tailing upon his head, be was pretty badly hurt He was car ried into tbe National Hotel, and it was found that his neck was slightly dislocated, causing severe pain .Drowned at New Castle. John W Wells, a Wilmington butcher, 'wandered to the wharves at New Castle on 'Wednesday, while in an intoxicated condi ttioB, and was not again seen, until his body was fouad floating in tbe river on Thursday morning He was drawn out aiid an inquest faeld by Coroner Groves It is supposed he fell over the wharf and was too drunk to save himself, and drowned. All abont a Sian. Two colored damsels being rivals for the Affections of a youthful Sambo, met jnst be yond tho railroad on- Tuesday evening, and -after some word quarreling concluded to set tle the matter then aad there, so at it they went scratching, clawing and manliag and making the blood and wool fly to an extent that must have gratified the most ardent ad vocate of equal rights, until they were separ ated by tbe bystandert, and departed, each her own way, sadder if not better satisfied. Tbe Potato Buga. These pests hare put in an appearance in -strong force. In many places the young iplants are eaten off as fast as they come np, and unless their ravages caa be stayed the prospect for potatoes this year is very slen der. A gentleman living below Odessa thought to fool the bogs by putting his potato patch fray down along tbe river, where he imagined tiiey couldn't find it, but they didn't fool worth a cent. He went to look at his potatoes a few days ago and found that the plagued bu^s had eaten the plants off close to the ground, and one old fellow was stationed upon a clod standing guard over a place where a young plant was just breaking through the ground waiting for it to come np. So be avers. Change 1st Time on th s Delaware R- R On Monday aext an important change in tho time table on the Delaware Railroad will go into effect. Free to all. ! Tbe Weather. The drouth which has held sway for so long and made the ground so dry and dusty was partially broken on Tuesday by a gentle rain Not a great deal of water fell, yet there was enough to settle the dust, refresh vegeta tion and give tbe young crops a start, and everything looked better for tbe rain It did not extend very far down the State In the vicinity of Clayton the ground was scarcely more than sprinkled and the drouth continues unbroken Rain is very much needed and unless some comes pretty soon the wheat crop won't be worth much. ; Store Robbed. The store of Themas Courey, Esq, in Cbes apeake City, was entered, by prying open tbe front door with an ax, on last Monday night, j and fine goods, clothing, etc, to the amount ; of $1,000 taken therefrom. Tbe store is situ i ated in the centre of the town, and on the j main street where persons are passing pretty much all night, and it is u wonder bow the thieves could make so much noise without | being detected. No one sleeps in the build ing, and the knowledge of this fact led the , thieves to make such an extensive raid. Up i to last accounts, nothing had been heard from the 8tolen B ood9 ' ? et ever J effert is bein * ! made t0 ctt,ch tbf r »scals. L Suicide. ■ Mr. Joshua F. Biddle, a farmer, well known > D this vicinity, committed suicide by hflbg ! i Q £ himself at bis residence on the farm of i Judge E. G. Bradford in Middle Neck, Cecil county, Md., on Tuesday last. He was in Middletown in the morning, and complained of feeling very nervous. Returning home he ate bis dinner ns usual, lit his pipe and walked out. It seems that he went directly to the bam, climbed upon a bin, took a trace repe( tied one end t0 a rafter aad lhe other about his neck, then jumped from the bin and was strangled by ths rope. Mr. Biddle bad been laboring under mental ! depression for several weeks brought about b Y a 8eTere nervousness to which he has been for 80me ,ime subject, but nobody thought he had any idea of committing suicide. He was about 55 years of age, and in no financial difficulties. lee Cream Saloons. Mr. F. Taroni has taken tbe store-room on the corner of Main and Broad streets, formerly occupied by J. F. Eliason and fitted it up nicely as a bread, cake and confectionery store and iee cream saloon. Middletown can now boast of two as fine, if not the finest, ice cream saloons on the Peninsula. Mr. Rice, at tbe Town Hall, has a very large and com modious saloon handsomely fitted np and is ever ready and willing to accommodate tbe public with all manner of good things. He keeps on hand a large supply of small paper boxes for ice cream in which it may be cai ried to any reasonable distance, thus afford ing paterfamilias a fine chance to take the cooling luxury home to their bereaved fami lies when they stay out a little too late in the evening. The Trains on the Kent County R. R. t From Chestertown to Masseys, now run through to Clayton, instead of connecting witb the Queen Annes road on to Townsend. The change was made last Monday. This makes Clayton quite a railroad centre ; the leading station on the Delaware road and tbe termini of two others, the Maryland & Dela ware and the Kent County roads. It is un derstood that the P. W. & B. Co. will put in additional siding for the Kent road, from which it is to be inferred that tbe new ar rangement is to be permanent, though there are intimations that the Kent may in time run on through to Bombay Hook. This bardly seems probable, however. The reason for the change on tbe part of the Kent road, we understand, was the high freight tariffit was subjected to by the old route. For instance, an article freighted from Philadelphia, for which tbe P. W. A B. would charge 25 cts., to Townsend, the Queen Annes road would also charge 25 cts. to Masseys, and then the Kent road would have to charge 25 cts. more to Chestertown, making 75 cents iu all. Now the 25 cents from Townsend to Masseys is saved to the shippers, and passengers by the new route only have to change cars once—at Clayton .—Smyrna Times. Civil Rtgbta with a Vengeance. On Monday last a young negro walked into the post office at Newark, and, impu dently tapping Mr. Miller, the postmaster, upon the shoulder, insolently demanded pos session of the office. Mr. M. not knowing who the demandant was, replied by ordering the impertinent negro out of the office. Thereupon the latter drew his papers anl^ showed his authority for his demand as a U. S. official appointed to inspect the workings of post offices and announcing himself as a son of the notorious Fred. Douglass. Mr. Miller answered that he was busy at that time assorting the moraing mail, but that as soon as that was accomplished and the mail dis tributed, he would give up possession to tbe officer, and allow bim to make bis inspection. This did not satisfy tbe indignant, and con sequential "American citizen of African descent" and be marched out of the office threatening vengeance, and promising to re port Mr. Miller to tbe Postal authorities for not yielding the office when he demanded it. Oar informant says that the negro acted in n most disgustingly impudent manner. Mr. Miller is a gentleman of remarkably mild and courteous maimers aed not apt to be over hasty in taking or avenging insults, but had he kicked that negro out of bis office he would have but served bim right. Every moment of our lives, every part of our bodies is wearine out and is being built up anew of fresh matter. This work is accom plished by tbe blood which goes through every part. But if the blood becomes weak or vitiated, and does not perform its work properly, tbe system is actually poisoned by the worn-out matter clogging the vital organs instead of leaving the body. JOHSTES' Adjustable Peach Assorter. With the above machine, a man with the assistance of two good boyi can easily enll 1000 baskets of peaches per day, taking out the leaves, soft and specked fruit, and assort the bal ance into three sixes (callings, primes, and extras,) far more accurately than it can be done by hand ; with an increased force, the capacity of the machine is (comparatively speakjng) nnlimited. But as the reputation of the first Assorter was felly sustained by those in uselast season, I merely wish to state that they will be BUILT UPON ORDERS ONLY, and those who may favor me with their orders will have until the 25th of May tocountermand the same, should the fruit be injured in the meantime. For terms please see circular. The price therin named is the result of close figuring, based upon what they cost me to have them built by the hundred, and as the probability is that sj many will net be needed hereafter, it will be to the growers' interest to secure them this season.
