Fns in Middletown.—O n Wednesday night,
the stables of J. B. Fennimore, Esq., at Middle
town, were entirely destroyed by firs, together
arith mort of their contenta. Th* live stock «ras
all rescued, with the exception of one cow, which
was burned to death. The loss is considerable.
The fire it supposed to have been the work of a
dastardly incendiary.
Seriously Burned.— On Wednesday evening,
a uttle child of hin, Emma Alexander, living on
Madison street, between Second and Third, was
seriously burned by the explosion of coal oil, caus
ed by a lamp fulling npon the hot styve. Its in
juries were so serious, that for awbfle/it wax not
expected to live. Mrs. Alexander and a Mrs.
Zooms, with whom she boarded, also had .their
heads severely burned in their effort* to date the
child.
Heavy Thunder Stobm.—O a Wednesday
night, a thunder storm of the most tawffid apd ap
palling Character passed over Chestereouniy. Th#
lightning was of that vivid forked character, a*
usually follows a sultry midsummer day;' While
the thunder crashed and mads many quake with
fear who never experienced aay alarm before
from such visitations. The lightning struck the
upper factory of Mr. Jonn Denton, in Pocopeon
twp., homing it to the ground, end on which no
insurance wa* enacted.
Heavily Fined.— Oapl. Tyler, of tbe schooner
Damascus, wns presented fer violating tha oyslar
law, and Justioe Hadd*way, of St. Michaels, Md.,
fined him 8300 on Saturday, and Monday, Justice
Warten fined him 8200 for another offence. If
such fines aa these are imposed every time the*«
dredgers violate the law, the basin*— will be soon
broken up.

noon, as a tug was tewjng two schoouers down
the Christiana, on tarpidgilhe bend at the ship
yard of tbe Harlan A Hollingsworth Company,

I., swung too far around causing her bow to

A bole about two feel square was made in the
schooner, and, but fur the assistance of »hip-ear
peuters lu thé yard, would have sunk ; she was
kept afloat, howefer, and towed eway. The
Captain of tbe schooner was on tbe cabin at tbe
time tbe collision occurred, and be was knocked
ofl, railing on tbe deck spraining both his ankles.
