Improvement.?One of tbe greatest
inconveniences to which the citizens of
Wheeling have been subject heretofore,
and more particularly strangers visit
ing the city, was tbe want of some
means of distinguishing the streets.
This lias long been a crying evil, but
we are happy to say, is being remedied
through ibe late aotioti of Council In
ordering sigus to be paiuted and put up
at each intersection of streets. Mr.
George Roberts, palmer aud dealer in
oils, glass, window blinds, etc.. has
been busily employed for several weeks
past In lettering tbe signs and plscing
them in position. He has now com
pleted his work as for down as Hamp
den street, and will be engaged some
time yet in finishing tbe remainder,
line thing more is needed, and that is
tbe proper numbering of tbe houses.
With the streets lettered and tbe bouses
numbered, it would be easy for a
stranger to find his way to any part.of
