We have only had about half a dozen thus fnr-^-so that we are likely to have a pretty lively time during the balance of the season. Durinq the thunder shower of Thursday evening, hailstones from an inch and a quarter to two inches and a half in diameter fell about a mile and a half west of Bridgeport. The hailstones, although large, were not very plenty, there being only one to about every square yard of ground, according to our informant. Thi Elm Grovi Thaoidy.?A SuubenviUe Junk Dealer Murdered and Robbed. J ?The unknown man who ?u found in a a dying condition in a corner of the line r< adjoining the residence of Mr. Patrick H Kennedy, near Elm GroTe^wu taken to ai the County Infirmary on Thunday ere- | ning. and died there yesterday morning, a Justice Brown, of Trladelphia district, C was notified, and held an Inquest over the w remains. The jury, afterfhearing the lit- tr tie evidence that could be obtained con* oerning the tragedy, returned a verdict fi to the effect that the deceased came to his death from injuries received at the hands tl of persons unknown. u Deceased was identified as Dennis Carney, a junk dealer from near Steuben* tl ville, Ohio. Ills skull was found to e be fractured from ear to ear and from the si forehead entirely across the top of his ii head. It was the opinion of the phjrsi* t< cians who examined the wounds that they r were caused by a blow from a heavy f< stone. The unfortunate man was buried * on the Poor Farm, and the propertv a found in his possession was ieu p with Superintendent Shanley until n claimed by those, if any there arc, a who are rightfully entitled to it. The only money found upon Carney'a person c waa fifteen cents. In his wagon warn f collection of old iron and rags, showing t his occupation to be that of a junk dealer. He muat have had a larger aum of money J with him, aa he waa engaged in buying g up old iron and rags throughout the country, and had only just bvgun to collect his load. n Carney waa quite an old man, perhaps aixty or over, lie was in the city on v Tuesday, when he had a two-horse wagon, behind which waa hitched a horse draw- a ing a light cart. Ho left the city via the p National Koad, and waa not heard of a hereabouts until discovered on Thursday morning, unable to givo an intelligible 11 account of what had befallen him. 1 From the evidence before the coroner's jury it peema that a couple of suspicious t looking characters were noticed following a Carney from this city. Carney stopped at t Stamm's on Wednesday, and while there 3 appeared to have been drinking, and waa S inclined to bo quarrelsome. Several ner- li aons who aaw hiui at Stauim's and else- / where testified to hia disposition to pro- o voke a quarrel with all who came in 1 proximity to him. o A man named Nelson, who works on n Mrs. 1'ryor'n place, about nix o'clock on u ltf_ J J ?J-- Pa.na. ..-.I weunenunj' rviliuifc iiuhwi vnmv; nnu the two suspicious looking men referred to going up the Kennedy lane. The three j men were apparently quarreling, Carnov n claiming that one of the men had a hand* ,j kerchief belonging to him. The dispute f, continued for some minutes, when Carney ? took hold of the man whom he charged n with taking his handkerchief, and at- (j tempted to recover it. A scullle ensued, when the third man picked up a P( large stone and threw it at Carney, strik- j ingliim on the head. Carney fell to the e ground, apparently unconscious, and the t| two men walked rapidly away toward the ,, city. Nelson did not go to Carney's assistance, for some reason best known to himself, and said nothing about what he |( had seen until the following day. c As soon as the news of Carney's death v reached the city SherifFTingle and Prose- cuting Attorney Jordan went out to Elm J Grove and made a careful inquiry among those who were supposed to know any- j( thing about the matter, in the hope of ol?- c taining some clue to the identity of the murderers They found a hard ta*k be- <] fore them, but are not disposed to de- tl spond. The men seen with Carney were described to them, and they were traced H back to this city. Here they lost the j trail, but hope that they may yet "spot" s, their men. We are in possesion of a full c description oi the murderers, but it in not v thought advisable to make it public at r the present time. }Ve hope that the olli- e corn may succeed in bringing the brutal murderers speedily to justice. g r July and AdoU8T.?The following is v Prof. Tice's forecast of the weather in t this vicinity for the months of July and r August. The storm cloud passed north and it ^ was thought wo would get no rain, but p suddenly the clotul began to move west or^ southwest, whep soon the rain and hail began to fall in torrent*, perfectly devastating every particle of vegetable ^ matter in ils'couree. Corn, wheat, oats, in fact everything, is in ruins. . q On the 6th inst. at noon, hail lay where it had washed to the depth of two feet. w: The wheat was nearly ripe, and besides ov beating it into the earth there is not an average of two grains to the head left. Corn is perfectl v demolished, the stalks beat oft' close to the ground. Altogether it was the most destructive storm ever witnessed ? by the oldest inhabitants.
