We hare receired from the Her. Mr, c,
Moffat an editorial article that appeared g
in the laat isaue of the Philadelphia ?
rrubyterian in regard to what waa aaid
and dune at the meeting of the Ministerial n
Awociation of that city ovor the down- r
fill of John'ti. Morton, the President ol *
the Permanent Exhibition, under whose ?
auspices the exhibition was o)*ned on c<
.Sunday*. a
Mr. Moffat calld our'attention to the
ftct that thin article correct* the miarep* R
reMjntationa wliicu have gone auroau n
touching tho action of said Association. b:
The ministers did not rcjoicc oter the *
downfall of Morton because he waa a y
Sabbath breaker, nor for any other rea- rj
son. They did not rejoice" at all over t<
JiJ* /all. P
The facta of the case, as let forth in j|
the Prubyterian, are aa follows: There J
wis an apparent disposition manifested b
on the part of some uieuiben'of the Akso- |j
ciation to exult over the fate of Morton, C(
mid "a few uttered some excited wordsf zi
but the rent grew calm, and judgment ii
rose superior to passion, restrained exul- !l
tat ion, and suggested a wise reticence." 0
"Resolutions committing the meeting to Ci
Home expression of gladness over the 1
downfall of Mr. Morton were introduced, u
but they failed to receive support, and n
were either withdrawn or laid on the ta- ?
Me by an overwhelming and most em- c
phatic vole."
Having thus stated the case, the Pro- (j
hjterim goe? on to comiiluin of the injtis- c
lice that hart been done to the meeting by 8
the press, in ascribing to it an expression lj
of gratification over Morton's fall, on f(
account of hi* action on tho Sabhath fi
question. Tho importers for the daily n
papers are held mainly responsible for 11
the falt<o impression that has got abroad a
in the country. According to tho Praby- K
Itriun, "the attempt to condenso the pro- I"
feeding* and speeches of such a meeting *
result* necessarily in a failure, and gen- ^
erally in a faUe representation." c
We must nay that the editorial article o
of the I'rtsbytcrian does not impreea us an J|
a very complete refutation of the reportx fL
of the daily pre?w touching what was said ft
at the meeting of the Minwterial Asao- b
ciation. It atemsjio concede enough to ^
awaken a disagreeable suspicion that jj
aftor all there wax a good deal oi truth w
in the reports of the daily papers. Why '*
should the reporterH connpiro to miiirep- w
resent the ministers: Arc the reporters ^
the enemies of the ministers? It cannot L
be said that they have not intelligence w
enough to catch and correctly represent
the spirit of a meeting. Why then, we t|
ask, should they conspire to misrepresent ^
it? K
Wc admit that there is a strong premnnption
that a body of men so intelligent
an the Philadelphia association ot n
ininii'tera ought to be, and no doubt y
renlly are, could not bo far forget themHelve*
jih to rejoice over the discovery ^
tliut a man who had broken the Sabbath ti
w?h aNo a robber,'especially as he had ]'
done about all bin robbing before he l'
commenced breaking the Sabbath, llreak- Q
i?g the Sabbath wan only the culmination c
? the attenuated apex, so to speak, of a
his sinfull career, just as De Quincey "
once obxerved that the man who commitR ()
murder often turns out a very vulgar t!
fort of a person.
It would really be excessively silly for 0
the association referred to to rejoice over '
such a Rcape-grace's exposure. On a ii
character as dark as his Sabbath break- v
ing could not leave a perceptible stain. ||

Doctors Who Diltcr. \
The Kev. Dr. Prettyman, of Kingwood, ?:
Preston county, does not sympathize with ''
Hev. Fank Do Haw' riew of the Kumio* c
Turkish war. The Preston Journal, after n
quoting the substance of the lNTr.ll.iaKN- n
ckk's recent report of an interview with '
Mr. De Hass, on the subject of the war, ?
goes on to *ay that fi

We confess that we are a little puzzled
to know why these two Methodist minis- j(
ters, both of whom have been abroad, aud ii
nhould know whereof they speak, difler v
ho widely. However, it occurs to us that jj
they were, after all, differently circum- ^
atanccd. Mr. Do Ilass was Consul at Je- Ii
rusa'em. He came in official contact T
with tho governing class at that point, *
wh>, aa he says, area set of carpet bog t|

that country, and do pretty much ns they
please in tho way of levying tribute oti h
the inhabitants. This imhe chief reason
why Palestine, which, according to Mr. "
])e Hnss, is naturally capable of agricul"
tnml prosperity, does not flourish.
The Kov. Mr. Prettyman speaks only J
with reference to the toleration he received
as a Christian Missionary at some E
point (we presume) in Asiatic Turkey.
And yet lie v. J. P. Newman, of Washing- jj,
ton City, another Methodist minister, who n
went round the world to inspect the gov- ci
ernmcnt consulates, delivered a lecture
at Pittsburgh last Thursday night, in the
course of which he said that the Turks 0
were "a bigoted, domineering, unscrupfti- h
ous race, whose government is only a ^
name, which should be blotted from ex. j|
istence by no matter what power." a
This goes to confirm what Mr. De Haas a
said- Dr. Newman was not speaking of ^1
Turkish rule iu Palestine when he mado tj
this remark, but was descanting on d<
Nineveh?upon a trip up tho Tigris and
Euphrates?a visit to the Garden of
Eden, and to other spots in Asiatic Tur- "
key. And his judgment is that the Tur- c<
kish governmeut in a nuisance.
Another thing pertinent to this point: J?1

Irery farmer should have an ice-house.
J|?on nearly every farm is some little ?
