Jennie and three girls who gave their names as Lizzie Gray, Minnie Kramett and Maud Davenport, wcrearrested. They were fined $10 and coats each. Tho Madame put up the wealth, and the others were sent up. Hannah Fitzsimmons, charged with drunkenness, was committed to jail in default of $2 and costs. Wm. Florence was assessed $20 and coats for disorderly conduct, which he couldn't pay, and was sont to the stone pile. James Itine, proprietor of the ttine House, was up for keeping hogs within the city limits, contrary to the ordinance. He paid a line of $1 and costs. The would-be suicide is ono Cicorgo Myers, a guest at tho Booth House, lieorge attempted to cut his way out of tho world, by carving his throat with his pocket knife, and succeeded in nearly severing his windpipe, ills throat and neck ware horribly mangled, and ho presented a ghastly and sickening appearance when found. The Baltimore and Ohio depot of thia city woa ii scene of gayety and pleasure on rbanday morning, as forty-eight Preabyterian ladles gathered there for the purpose of taking the special train (which lliey had previously chartered to convey them) to Washington, Fa., to attend the Presbylerlal Convention. All were promptly on hind at tbe oppointed hour, 8 o'clock. Grave, businesslike looking ladles, with official documents In hand, gave dignity to the party, while the bright, happy facet and merry laughter of the young girls seemed to aay, "we ire going for fun." Orr, Vice President, ol Holllday's Cove, opened the meeting by reading a portion of Scripture, followed with prayer by Mrs. Brownson,of Washington. Mrs. Spear, of Washington, In a beautiful address of wolcome, made every woman and child in that large assembly feel at home at once. The meeting was then opened for business. Tho Corresponding Secretary reported twenty-six auxiliary societies of this Presbytery heard from, showing a f;rcat increase ill the number of laborers ust year. The total number of ladies and children engaged in the work of sending the (iospel to heathen nations was last voar 51)1; this year. 1)50. The Treasurer's report showed tho amount of money contributed $2,558, almost one thousand dollars in advance of last year. An interesting letter from Miss Bell Caldwell (formerly of this place, but now a missionary in Siam) was read. This young lady receives a salary of $500 per year, and is supported by a number of the churches of this Presbytery. At this point in the business Miss Sharrard, Principal of the young Ladies'Seminary of Washington, announced to the great delight of all that lunch had been prepared, and would be served in the lecturo room of the church, and that the members wou!d go down in tho following order: first, the President and Vice-Presidents, next the Secretaries and Treasurers, and then (to use her own language) "tho common people like myself." A cordial invitation was also extended to all the visitors. Such a scene as met their eyes as they entered that dining room will never be forgotten; live long tables were most beautifully and elaborately arranged. The President's table had a pyramid of fruit and flowers in the centre andsmall bouuuptaonppch plate; the other tables were also ornamented with (lowers and fruit. The substantials.were first partaken of. then the desserts, elegant cakes, jelly and preserves, to which two hundred in number did full justice. afternoon session. The afternoon session was opened at 2 o'clock. The reports of Auxiliary Societies wore heard, and a very interesting paper, prepared by Miss Brown, and read by Mrs. Dr. Storer, of Triadelphia, on the importance of foreign work, was listened to with great interest. A committee to assign delegates to their places awaited the ladies aithe door. .So great was tho hospitality and cordiality of tho peonle that it seemed that every residence in Washington was open to tho Society; but wo could only get afow of the names of those entertaining and therefore we will not give any. Suffice it to say, that the hospitality of tho Washington people knows no bounds. EVENING MEETING. After tea tho ladies again repaired to the Church, where the following reverend gentlemen spoke words of encouragement and good cheer to tho "Womans* foreign Missionary Society of Washington Presbytery": Rev. J. D. Moffat, ot Wheeling; Kev. Mr. Alexander, of Mt Prospect; Rev. Wm. Hunter, soon to become a missionary to China; and prayer by Kev. Dr. Hayes. This meeting was presided over by Rev. Dr. Brownson, of tho First Church, Wash Tho exorcises were closed about nine and a half o'clock, and after many regrets that the day had closed too boou, and loving good-byes were spoken, tho delegation had marching orders to the depot. Hut tho end is not yet; for after the Conductor had "counted heads." behold men were missing! and the "girls we left behind us" heard, but did not heed, the last whistle of tho engine as the train hurried olf, and left them in Mr. John Baird's parlor, enjoying the company of the belles and beaux of Washington. The train reached Wheeling at midnight The ladies were mot by their sleepy husbands, sons and brothers, and beset on ftU sides bv eager "reporters"; and thus ended one of tho happiest and most enjoyable days in tho history of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society. TheSunday School has made arrangements for floral offerings appropriate to the occasion, and talcen altogether the service promises to be the most interesting ever hold at the church.
