A brief statement of the facts will convince all fair minded people that I did no more than my duty us an officer of the ivmntv. About the middle of June I was applied to for a permit to admit a ohild to the County lnlirmary. The represenutions made were such as in my iuognient were sufficient to Justify mo in touinj the permit asied for, which I did. Aboot two days afterward 1 was called upon and requested to accompany the parlies to tho Inflimiiy with the child. I was tendered twenty-live dol lsrs, aud reported tbe same to Captain Plankey. I consented to go, and we arrived at tbe Infirmary some time after night, hav ing been detained by a heavy rain. Captain Plankey was called, and the child, with the nermit. was delivered to him. I stated [o Captain Plankey that I had twinty-five dollars lu my hands froth the frleods of the child. This is substantially all that occurred. I considered It my duty to report the receipt of ihe money to the Board ot Commlseloneis at the time prescribed by law. Septlon 24 of chapter J, Acta ol 1881, says; /'Annually every egeut and overseer thall render to the court [commissioners] a correot ao oonntof bis tmnsactlons, with propsrvouoh ere, and pay according to 1U order such bal ance as may be ill bis hands. This Is what I intended to do. I told Capt. Plankey that I had tbe money, but did not think 1 hsd a right to pay it tnh m.
