New York, Not. 13.?The aecoad
night of the billiard tourney between
Jacob Schaefler and Frank 0. Ives at
Madiaoa Square Garden concert ball tonight
drew a good crow/. Tbe good
playing of Schaefler on Moadajr made
him afavorite. -Althoughhii opponent
mado the largest Average and tbe great
est number of rune, BchaoBer left the
ivories in* good position on the previous
evening, after bis ran of 129 and oponed
to-night with a ran of 30. He missed
on an open shot and Ires failed
on the Bame shot Tne Wizzard then
managed to score one and gave the play
to Ives, who carefully opened. He got
the balls together and worked them all
around the table, making some pretty
masse shots. His draws from one side
of the bulk line to the other were applauded.
When he reached the one
hundred mark he had the balls in the
centre of the table. Ho kept tip the
ran to one hundred and fifty-four, when
ho failed on a draw shot inside the line.
vThe run of ono hahdrod and fifty-four
beat Ives' run of last night by one,
which was tho highest. The score
stood: Ives, 722; Schaeffer, 632.
The balls were in fine position, right
in the corner, andjves, by nursing,
made a phenomenal ran. When he
reached his old score of 154 there was
loud applause. He continued to juggle
the ivories, and the balls were in good
position when he reached the 200 mnrk.
Ives crept to 223 and then missed a
' masso.
Up to this time BchaoOer had made
only 44 points, his highest ran being at
the opening. This made the score:
Ives, 1,014; tichaofler,845.
Ives started with a cross shot and
succeeded, but broke the balls, and on
tbo third shot crossod tbe table three
times bofore bo kissed for a point.
This left tho balls in Rood position and
ha continued the rnn to lifty-foar when
he mused on an open shot.
Schaeflor next retrieved his bad work
and made a run of 124 points. His 123d
shot was a very pretty draw, which
earned applause.
Ives had only 122 more to rnn oat bis
score of 1,200. This he did in an easy
manner, keeping the halls in close range
of tho rail and going outHido anly when
it was necessary. The "Napoloon" ran
bis scoro out amid ((root applause.
Schaefler was unfortunate, bo havinjr
had an opportunity to run only 233.
His hichogt run was 124 which ho followed
by makfni; two points.
Ives' liveruuo for the night was 57 5-11,
which boats tho previous record of 33J,
held by both Ivos and Schaelfor. Tho
BCore by innings was as follows:
Ives?0,154, 0, 9,60,223, 0, 54, 0, 10,
122-032.
Schaefler?30, 1, 0, 7, 15, 0, 124, 2,

The only material cliaugos mado in the

and tho notice that tho proposals

It is confidently expected at the treasury

expectation is based on the fuct that
thero are oxcoptionally largo amounts
of money now lying idle and Booking
investment in tho monoy centres of the
country, and upon tho further fact that
the Februarv issue is now quoted at
$118.50, or about-2 per cont auovo tho

From the last issue there was realized
$58,000,917 03, and of this amount $52,850,204

A GRAIN ELEVATOR.

Tbe Groat Drawback is tbe Fact

desires, the grain men ana others inter*
ested are discussing the advisability of
forming a joint stock company for the
puroose of erecting snch a plant. The
great drawback lies in the fact that no
suitable location for the elevator has
been suggested. The item of the first
importance is a location on high and
dry ground, which cannot be found on
the South Side, and in addition an
elevator in that part of town would not
be as convenient as one on the unper
aide of tbo creek. Up town there does
not seem to be a suitable location.
There the matter stands at the present.
The advantages of an elevator would
be almost incalculable. It would, to begiu
with, make Wheeling a grain center
of no inconsiderable importance, and
draw customers from among the milU
ingand grain merchants of the entire
tri-Btate radius. At) matters are now,
whatever wheat, oats and corn aro received
here now by rail is of necessity
kept on the tracks until sold. Consequently
these commodities are brought
herein email quantities and often the
narket is depletod, with the effect that
h? comumar goes elsewhere for what
tie wants in that lino. With an elevator,
larger stocks could be carried. The
ocal farmers, too, could deposit their
jutput in the elevator and not a?at <
present, demoralize the markot by sellngat
disastrous prices when the local
lealers cannot handle their pram.
