The city couucil committee on elections met at the city clerk's office last evening for the purpose of transacting business preparatory to the coming Wheeling city election in January. There was a fair attendance of the members, Chairman John J. Kenney presiding, and Alesars. Dobbins, Menkemeller, Farrell, Knoke and Kobinson present The Republican city committee presented its full list of commissioners ot election, ono for each of the several precincts in the various wards, but the Democratic committed did not roport all its commissioners, and on account of the absence of two or three members of the council committee, thoir selec tions wore not reported last evening. This is the scalo adopted by the county board of commissioners for the recent elections. Milligan and Farrell, and waa adopted without dialent. The committee adjourned to meet next Friday evening when the members will report the polling placet in the various precincts. There will be a number of changes from tho placet ueed in the late election. After the committee bad adjourned it was discovered that the selections of commiisionera must be ratified by council at a meeting to be held not later than tbe first Tuesday of the month preceding the one in which the election is to be held. It will be seen therefore that a meeting must be held this evening to ratify the work of the committee in order to make the coming election legal and valid. Tho membors of the committee, under the circumstances therefore united in a call for a special meeting of council to be held this evening at 7:30 o'clock. The people of Fulton were cranted the right to lay u brick walk acrois tho National road in Fulton to reach the Elm Grove railway station. The clerk reported that two of the four children of Louis Brioaach, in jail awaiting trial for tbe murdor of his wife, had been placed in the children's home. An olectiou was then gone into for engineer and assistant at the court home, Commissioner Fritz nominated George Uordeaux for chief engineer, and II. Freese for assistant. Mr. Irwin nominated John Lane, the present incumbent. for the first named office. On tho first ballot Bordeaux was elected by a majority of one, receiving five votos. Mr. Lane waa then nominated by Commissioner Irwin for assistant engineer, but he was defeatod by Freoao by a majority of one.
