Shortly after four o'clock yesterday afternoon Mr. Peter Welty died at hie home on the corner of Main and Ninth atreeta. He waa in his fifty-ninth year. His death was due to an intestinal abcess which had long caused him trouble. An operation was performed some time ago in the hope of relieving him, bat it was in rain. Mr. Welty was tbe hoad of the firm of P. Wolty & Co., and had long been a resident of this city and vicinity, ile wai born July 20, 1836, in the village of Krlle, in Wirtemberg, Germany. He came to America when a boy, and first located at Frederick, Md., but soon after came west and joinod hia brothor, Christian, forming the firm o! C. Welty & Brothor, and going into the distillery business in iielmont county, on the National road a few miles east of St. Clairsviile. Later they came to Wheeling and wont into tho'wholesale liquor business under tho same firm name. C. Welty died in 1870, and some years after his sons, Samuel aud William, wont into the tirm. which was changed to P. Welty & Co. Ilia wife, a eon, George, and two young daughter!! survive him. Yesterday evening his many frienda in Che city ware grieved to learn o( the death o( Louis A. Warneke, assistant secretary of the Peabpdy Insurance Company, a young man well known in the bminesa community and highly esteemed by all for his starling eood qualities and well liked by a large circle of acquaintances as well Mr. Warneke was so recently in the most robust of health that the announcement took everybody by surprise. It was only on Thursday afternoon that ho was a spectator al the toot ball game. The circumstances of his death are extremely painful.
