Smith and W. W. JUir ton. The class of exhorters to bo1 examined for license to preach as local preachers was then brought forward and the pre siding elder proceeded to examine them. The class was composed of Messrs. John W. Farmer, Webster Wayman and Ira E. Garby, all of the New Martinsville charge. After the applicants retired :i very boated and lengthy discussion took place regarding the standard that t ho exhorters must come up to before they could be licensed to preach. It was do elded that they must come up to an average of at least sixty-live per cent and not fall below fifty per cent in any branch. Webster Wayman and John W. Farmer were licensed to preaeh as local preachers, but Ira E. Garby was not granted a license. Uov. J. W. Dowler, of Chapllne Street church. Wheeling, passed the third year's course at the morning session and the committee reported that he was ready for the fourth year's course. Rev. James E. Price and Rev. Charles Earp. of Kenwood, were excused from taking the course laid down for local preachers. The session then adjourned to meet at S o'clock. Tn the evening Rev. C. H. Lakln, of Short Creek charge, delivered an elo quent sermon to a large audience, which dosed _t his .session of the conference.
