BMUer4>COi There are always some super-critical persons In every community, people who know it all and do not concede average Intelligence to other people, and It frequent!#' happens that ?ow musical sharps are in this category. Now if there are any of the latter class In this city who Imagine that Steinway pianos are not strictly up to date In every particular, let them undeceive themselves by dropping in the salesrooms of the F. W. Baumer Company, Market street, and listen to the special Steinway grand that Mr. Baumer was ao fortune In securing during his recent trip to New York. The instrument attracted Mr. Baumer*s critical eye as soon an he entered the salesroom. But to covet an article Is one thing and possess it is another. The Steinways were not willing to part with it at first, for the reason that it had been manufactured for a special customer. However, they could not resist the earnest pleadings of such an old customer as Mr. Baumer, and he secured a prite indeed. It is without doubt the finest piano ever brought to 'this city, and that means a great deal more than the mere cold type assertion Implies. The case is of San Domingo mahogany, devoid of the ornamentation too often put upon piunos of inferior tone quality, but it bears a remarkably high polish, bringing out the natural beauties of the wood, and is something to be sincerely admired. Of the tone of this piano, it is difficult to choose adequate words. It must, in common parlance, be heard to be appreciated. The scale is even throughout beyond (he dream of those familiar with the ordinary pin no of commerce. The bass is rich and mellow, having a peculiar organ-like quality, while the middle notes have a voice-like character difficult to deecribe, yet very apparent, and the treble Is clear and bright. The singing quality is admirably worked out. and the entire effect is ideal. In fact, the pipes of Pan or the lyre of Orpheus would not be in it with this melody producing woider. Drop in any time; hear it and see it. It will cost you nothing. Besides there ore other attractions in the well-selected stock of this firm that may give you Increased pleasure. Clrcnlt Court, In the circuit court. Part I, Judge Hervey, yesterday, the demurrer was sua tained In the cane of Adolph Knoke vs. Wood Bros.' Planing Mill Company and others. In the case of Annie J. Gill and others vs. Charles Ahl, Jr.: administrator of Charles Ahl, sr., and others, Commissioner Georg-e E. Boyd was Instructed to make reports of the estate and accounts of Charles Ahl. sr., and of his administrator, Charles Ahl, jr. The case of Fred Arbour vs. Wheeling Railway Company et al. was put on trial. Mr. Arbour is suing: for $2,000 damnges, as a result of being injured by the fall of a trolley pole on Twenty-sixth Btreet. A CHURCH ENTERTAINMENT. A very successful entertainment was given by the Waldo Quartette, at the First English Lutheran church, last night, assisted by Mrs. Fred. H. Frazler, vocaJlst, nnd Mr. J. P. Morgan, reader. The quartette rendered banjo and mandolin selections very creditable and the assisting talent enhanced what was an excellent entertainment.
