July 10.?The National Educational Association was welcomed to Charleston this afternoon at the opening pension cK the annual convention. Nearly 2,000 deJegates were present In the auditorium when the assemblage was called to order by W. H. Welsh, chairman of the local executive committee. Dr. William. R. Harper, president oi the University of Chicago, was the principal speaker at the morning session of the.national council of educators' convention. Dr. Harper made a personal report as cnairman 01 the committee on a national university. The report recommended that such a university be not established. Dr. Harper's report wan received by the delegates. but a resolution was adopted, continuing the committee nnd recommending that further research and Investigation be mndc. MARTIN'S .FERRY NEWS.
