In Russia, on the Northern railways, the locomotives, hitherto burning wood or conl, are being adapted for peat-burning, the saving being estimated at some fifty per cent. In uiauy places the peat is cut by hand machines, but these, although cheap and easy to work, have the drawback tha the peat cannot be work ed belowcigli feet, whereas the peat-cutting machines worked by steam-power penetrate twenty feet and reach the lower, (leaser layers of peat, which, owing to their superior quality, command a higher price in the market. < IPeo-J :e that | >/s I jrOOdS. 1 GROCERIES. 1 A FULL ttNE OF' GE00EBIES,;'sl ALWAYS ON HAND. ? ?' r All Grades of Tobacco. | Dont fail to see our SADDLES and HARNESS, BUGGY WHIPS, BOBES and SADDLE BLANKETS. | Breech and Stale Loadiiti v Shot GUNS. Stove Blacking.?Always mix your stove blacking with turpentine; black the stove when cool. You will find that but little rubbing is required to make it look black and glossy. The turpentine helps remove the rust, if any, and the blacking stays on much longer. Toasting bread destroys the yeas germs, and converts the starch into a soluble substance which is incapable of fermentation. Dry toast will not sour the stomach, or produce any discom fort, and is, there, more agreeable to a weak disgestion than any other bread. Laziness grows on people; it begins in cobwebs and end in iron chains. The more business a man has to do the more he is able to accomplish, for he learns to economize his time. i'Jd
