I I /\ President Harvie Jordan, of the I fj Southern Cotton Association, has isi I ll 8Ued an address to the farmers of the J LI 11 South, urging them to hold their cotton until the price reaches the level it should attaiD, and he also urges the bankers and business men to aid in this work as far as possible. Following is the letter : ( "Headquarters Southern Cotton As- I sociation, Atlanta, Ga., November 27, 1907.?In the face of tho Btrenuous efforts of bearish manipulation to depress prices for spot cotton, the cotton growers all over the South are standCULLUU lDg flrm> in their heroic purpose to maintain th& market and prevent the anticipated panic of rush sales, so con * ? ? ? fl Knw/trl + navfain a rvonil _ lDia or | ilUCUUjr uujjcu iui iiuui i<ciwiu opuu- | lative sources. The records show that the crop has moved freely, until quite 11 recently, and the year's obligations, )B.y3.Di6 due by the farmers, largely liquidated. Every hanker, merchant and business interest in the South should now give Torino* every possible aid to the gr?wen in the present holding movement, until the price of spot cotton reaches the high level it should attain, and force ?6 that the payment of the full intrinsic value. "The recent census ginners' report does not indicate a crop in excess of 11,000,000 bales, due to the very short ? yield in the Southwest. | "Production in foreign countries is reported at least 2,000,000 bales short as compared with last year. Expor s of American cotton exceeded 9,000,000 bales in the last twelve months, and the demand continues unabated. < "The money stringency is fast being relieved and the business will soon asj | sume its normal ievel. Sell no cotton 1 ?1 |? that can be financed, or held, at present prices. The future strength of the cotton growing interests of the South depends upon winning the victory in the present struggle. Let every man ' in the South do his full duty and the reward will be sure and swift in the realization of higher prices. "Farmers, merchants, bankers and ' business interests generally favorable * to the holding movement should hold 1 K A VT It* mass meetings at once in their respec^CULnllkc tive counties or parishes and determine upon a concentrated effort and an effective co-operation.
