Killing al Clemson College.
(Ju Saturday afternoon, December -':'>,
about six o'clock, the unusual qiliol of
Calhoun, Piokons county, was disturbed
by pistol shots. Hird Taylor and John
Hunt, two white men, became engaged
in a quarrel over an old matter. After
au exchange of a very few words, Taylor
began to cut Hunt. Hunt drew a pistol
and (Ired three allots, indy one taking
clVect, il striking Taylor in the neck.
Hunt received seven gashes, the most
serious of which are across the side of
his face, completely severing the ear.
Tho other one that is serious is a gash
across the neck.
Moth men are in a critical condition
and there is little hope entertained for
the recovery of either. Taylor is said
to ho a vi ry dangerous man, having been
in a number of cutting scrapes prior to
this.
Taylor was liol drinking, lieut was
said to have been drinking slightly.
Hot li men arc very prominent and are of
tho host families in Pickcus and Oconce
count ios.
Taylor bas since died.
Suicide at Pine Mountain. Ga.
On Christmas morning Mr. Wm. Itill
Ulgsloy, who lived near Pine Mooniah..
(?a., committed suicide hy banging him
self, lie left home early in the morning,
saying he was going out to look afte .
renting a farm. Ile did not return dur
lng thc day, and his family, becoming
uneasy about him, instituted a search,
but were unable to learn anything of his
whereabouts. Later a general search
was made for him in every place possi
ble formal! to have become I he victim of
foul play oi' to have mel willi a fatal ac
cident. On lasl Sunday his body was
discovered suspended by a rope from the
rafters of a small building, about loo
yards from his home. The body showed
that life had been extinct several days.
Mr. Ititlingsley was about HO years ?ld,
well thought of by everybody and no
reason i a bc assigned for his act except
some fe- . eial trouble.

The coroner's jury rendered a verdict

Kev. O. F. Clarkson and wife arrived
in Walhalla last Friday evening, They
