I Correspondence of the Yorkville Enquirer. LETTER FROM CHESTER. Chester, March 1.?The Lee Light In- j fan try celebrated Washington's birthday by target shooting. Brice's grove was the scene of the shooting. The distance was two hundred yards. The best shot was made by J. G. Baird, and to him was award- : .ed the prize, which was a gold medal. The second oe9t shot was made by Sandy Childs. The Lee Light Infantry under the administration of Capt. G. J. Patterson is in a i flourishing condition. The escaped convicts captured at and near this place were taken back to North ' Carolina a few days ago. Each of them ; have a long time to serve in the Penitenti- j ary of that State, ana when they have served their sentences there one of them will be tried, convicted and sentenced to the Tenitentiry cf this State for the burglary recently committed here. His future is far from bright. Still he has no one to blame but himself. The report of Col. J. S. Bratton submitted at the late annual meeting of the Chester > Fair Association, was excellent. The condition of the fair was clearly and well set forth. The following extract is taken from ri this report: uOn the 3d, 4th, 5th and 6th days of November, 1885, the regular annual Fair was held at Chester, at which the largest and best display of field crops and stock ever made by the counties wason exhibition. Department No. 1, for field crops, was more than full. The stalls for cattle, and horses and other stock were all filled and a number could not be accommodated. We make ^ special mention of these Departments, because the accommodations were inadequate ? to exhibition therein. The ladies of the four counties deserve special mention for the interest manifested by their large and V most excellent exhibitions in Departments Seven, Eight and Nine." The following grand and petit jurors were ? i?a m 3 ni drawn on last JLuesuuy : ^mreute j^uugiu^, R.' B. McFadden, J. F. Barber, J. P. Ragsdale, R. B. Johnston, J. L. Wood, J. H. Hamilton, W. R. Davie, S. J. Wylie, C. H. Alexander, L. H. Grant, V. B. Millen, J. E. Wylie, J. M. Wallace?grand jurors. E. C. Stahn, Andrew Duncan, B. D. Jordan, James Spray, Henry Stevenson, Alex. Gaston, R. B. Anderson, G. C. Gill, W. T. Robison, Jr., J. M. Robinson, J. R. Turner, O. Barber, A. W. Darby, W. T. Corder, B. H. Ragsdale, J. C. Carpenter, T. P. McKeown, J. J. Sanders, T. B. Meacham, T. J. Cornwell, C. J. Stroud, R. S. Hope, Smith Kitchens, J. H. Hamilton, T. J. Weir, C. M. Ferguson, Smith Hardin, W. T. Dallas, I. N. Whitesides, A. D. Darby, Jr., R. R. Gill, J. S. Darby, Hugh Worthy, I. G. Jack, son, J. L. Kerr, Tillman Oglesby?petit jurors. Court will meet on the 3d Monday of this month. The young people had a splendid time /at the skating rink one evening last week. Mr. Banks Meacham, Jr., managed affairs successfully and pleasantly. The prizes for the best skating were awarded to Miss Annie Douglas, Mr. T. H. Murr and Eddie . Curtis. An unsuccessful attempt was made on last Saturday night to break into the express office. The cellar was the base of the burglar's operations. As times tighten thievinr* innmocnc The sheriff sold a small tract of land today at a low price. Some personal property was also sold at low figures. The low prices realized were a good index of the scarcity of money and the general hardness of the times. *y?Qn last Friday evening another burglary Avas committed in our town. The store of J. L. Simmons was robbed of a few articles. The glass window in the front of the store was the place chosen by the burglar for his operations. m. Parket Reports. YORKVILLE, March 3.?Cotton 6 to Si. . Therefore, per* sons who desire the benefit of club rates, must subscribe and pay for the paper before that date, as after the expiration of that time it will not be furnished for less than $2.~>0 unless new clubs are formed. Remember the date, and return your names immediately. Sunshine and Storm. The advertisement that has appeared in the En uuirkk for the last three issues of the paper, stating the fact that after 14 years of exposure to heat and cold, wind and rain, sunshine and cloud, the Longman <k Martinez* Prepared Paint, on a certain house in town, is still in good condition, would seem to preclude the necessity of saying anything further about the Paint. The facts in the case prove beyond question the durability of the Paint. Every painter who has applied it, attests its covering capacity and economy, and the faith of its manufacturers is shown by the absolute guarantee that attaches to every gallon sold. Is all this not sufficient recommendation to every person who has a house to paint, to use it. Sold in town only by Kuykexdal. Lingering Smiles. The fame of the Piedmont Beauty Tobacco has gone out into all the sections of the county tributary to this place. From the sunny slopes of Bullock's Creek, from the smiling plains of Bethesda, from the green fields ot Clover, from the historic ground of Bethel, from the pictu, resque landscapes of King's Mountain, from the laughing brooks and undulating acres of Clark's Fork, from the Bull hills and lovely vales of Turkey Creek, and from the Utopian region f" known as York township, the welkin rings with the continuous and increasing demand for the P. B. Contentment broods, and smiles linger on the countenances of all those who use the Beauty and remember the genuine can only be had of Kuykendal. Itugeies, A Dollar Each. We are offering a prepared Carriage Paint, black, at one dollar per can. Each can is warranted to paint a Buggy or a Carriage. But one coat required. Makes a beautiful finish without Varnish.
