Long before the hoar of meeting of OoanoQ
last crenion, an anxious orowd bad assembled
at the City Hall to witness the entertainment
expected to come off.
In genera), the orowd seemed to be in very
good homer, bat here and there were groups
of anxious faces discussing the probabilities
of a quorum and the prospects of the varions
candidates for the loares and fishes. As on
previous occasions, only a sufficient number
were admitted to occupy tb" seats in the
Council Chamber. The faces of those who
were unable to gain an entrance wore a look of
indescribable chagrin. In the ante-room sat
ex-Mayor Clara: and Mr. J. H. Jenka.
A few minutes before eight o'clock, but two
of tbs terrible ten had arrived-Aldermen
Barrow and T. J. Mackey. All the seats
around the Council Chamber were occupied,
and whispers passed round that there would
bo another fizzle. At eight o'clock the folio w
mff additional Aldermen entered and took
their seats: Aldermen E. W. M. Mackey,
Greene, and E. P. Wall, IV F. Wall, Hampton
I and Small, colored. The absence of two of the
j faithful-Thome and brown-caused some
I consternation among the brethren, who feared
a ruse by tbs minority. Their apprehensions
were allayed, however, by the entrance of the
, Mayor at fifteen minutes past eight o'clock.
On taking tbe chair, the Mayor ordered the
Clerk to take tbe names and report the number
of Aldermen present.
The Clerk announced eight members present.
Alderman Barrow rose and offered the follow?
ing resolution :
Resolved, That Council do now adjourn to
meet at eight o'clock to-morrow evening, 27th
instant.
? Alderman E. P. WaD (smiling.) That mo?
tion not having been seconded, I move that we :
do now adjourn.
Alderman E. W. M. Mackey. I move that we
do now adjourn until Tuesday evening next.
The question was then put and carried.
Council then adjourned, to the no small con?
fusion of the expectant and huogry crowds
who have been anxious to serve tho city under
the new administration.

PURIFYING PILLS.
THE EXCELLENT REMEDIES OF 0. S. PRO
PHTTT, M. L>., need no recommendation
their well known power In removing the diseases pe?
culiar to our Southern climate having already estab?
lished for them an enviable r?putation m Georgia
and the adjoining States. As the majority of persona
living in the South are predlspoied to dloease of the
Liver, lt is granted by au intelligent physicians that
most of the pams and aches of our people are due
to orgtnic or tune donal derangement of that Impor?
tant organ. Prophltt'a liver Medicine and Anti
Bilious Pills strike directly at the root of tbs evil.
Th?r cure the Liver, which in nine cases out of 'en,
ia at the bottom of tho Coughs, Dyspepsia, Colic,
Sick Headache, Rheumatism, Constipation, Men?
strual Obstructions, Ac, so common among our
people. Earache, Toothache, Acute Rheumatism,
Neuralgia and bodily pains of every kind flee before

like chaff before the wind.
PROPHITT'S LIVER MEDICINE.
Dr. Prophit!-Having used this medicine suffi?
ciently long to teat its virtue, tnd to-' Nf? my own
mind that lt is an invaluable rema) Dyspepsia
-a disease from which the writer has s mered much
for alz years-and being persuaded that hundreds
who now suffer from thia annoying complaint would
be signally benefltted, as he has been, by its use, we
deem lt a duty we owe to thia unfortunate class to
recommend to them the use of this remedy, which
has given not only himself but several members of |
his family the greatest relief.
if. W. ARNOLD,
Of the Georgia Conference.
DOOLY COUNTY, OA , April, 1807.
This la to certify that I was confined to the house,
and most of the ture to my bed, and tuffering the
greatest agony imaginable with Rheumatism, for
five months, and after trying every available reme?
dy, with no relief, I was cured with two bottles of |
Dr. 0.8. Prophltt's Anodyne Pam EUI It, each coat?
ing fifty cents enly; it relieved me almost instantly.
I therefore recommend it m the highest degree to
others suffering from similar dtsetse. I can say
that it ls one of the beat family medicines now out,
certain. Yours truly, W. A FOREHAND.
COVTNOTON, GA., July 9, 1867.
Dr. ProphiU-Having used your Liver Medicine
for more than a year In my family, I cheerfully re?
commend lt to all persons suffering from Liver af?
fections, Dyspepsia or Indigestion In any form. I
also recommend your Dysentery Cordial as tue best
remedy for that disease. O. T. ROGER?.
PXAHrOBDVTLLE, PUTNAJf COUNTY, Oct, t, 1867.
Dr. O. 8. ProphiU- Dear Sir-Ibis ls to certify
that I have used your Ague Pills for the last ten
ye ?rs, and I bave never failed to cure the Ague in a
single Instance with them. They alwtya break the
chills the first day that they are given. I can recom?
mend them aa being the nest ague medicine that t
have ever found, and they leave no bad effects follow?
ing them, as Quinine, Ac.
Yours reepeotfully. A WESTBROOK.
PUTNAM COUNTY, GA, September 22, 1868.
Dr. O. S. ProphiU-til-? have used for the bat
two years in my family your Liver Medicine, your
fain KUI It, and your Female Tonic, and I have no
feats In saying that they are t lie beat medicines I have
ever used for the Liver and Stomach. Neuralgic and
Rheumatic afflictions, Headache, Colic, and pains of
every kind are subdued by them. After using the j
medicines solong, I cheerfully recommend them to j
any and every one, and to all that are afflicted, as the
best and safest remedies for all the diseases for
which they are recommended, Ac
Yours respectfully, JAMES WRIGHT.
UR. PROPHITT'S FEMALE TONIC.
This Medicine, nita its associates, ls a safo and
certain remedy for all curable diseases to which Fe?
males alone are liable. It ia also an excellent pre?
