-The "Railroad War" for the mana ?real ont
OT the Albany and Susquehanna Railroad irs
prolific theme with the New York papers. A
pitched battle was fought on tbe tract on the
10th inst., in which nearly 1200 men were en?
gaged. The fight is thoa desoribed: The Erie
Company had from 700 to 800 men at the ron?
nel and holding the station near it. The force
or the Albany party at the upper end of the
tunnel numbered 400 men. The Ene manager
determine 1 to take the disputed ground. A
train of two cars was filled with men, nuoobei
ing, perhaps, 250, and sent into the tunnel. No
obstructions was mst with until the tunnel
was passed. At toe uper end a rail was found
to bare been taken up, and was replaced. Then
on turning a curve a train with Ramsy men on
board was observed approaching. The Erie
men say they whistle "down brakes," while
the other train increased its speed. Seeing
this, the speed of the Ene train was increas?
ed, and the two trains e track with a heavy
hirash. The collision was the signal for tbe
fight. The Albany men rushed upon the Erie
men with shouts, and they had scarcely come
to blows before tbe Ene party fled back
through the tuunel and over it. Tbe engine
backed into the tunnel and returned. Both en?
gines were considerably injured. The Brie
locomotive lost Us head-light and one flag?
staff and a part of its cowcatcher, while the
latter lost almost all of its prow and was
otherwise considerable braised and thrown
partly off the traok. Wbile getting tbe
engine in position again it was determined j
to follow up the victorv. Some of the Albany
men bad chased the Erie men over tbe tun?
nel, but they were not in sufficient num?
bera to attack. After the engine was right- j
ed it was driven through the tunnel; but so
mn ch time had elapsed that the Erie men
were rallied and ready for battle again. The
co: fl ?ct was reopened with great fury. The j
Erie men, occupying their own ground, bad no
intention of giving it ap; besides, tbey were
expecting momentarily ' e arrival of the For?
ty-fourth regiment. The Albany men, flushed
with success, attacked vigorously. Pistols
were need, with stones, dabs end fists.
Threats, enea and horrid oaths, were mixed
so as to be quite unintelligible, exoept as to
their hideous nasa and profanity. Some of the
meo were drunk. The fight was continued no
til about eight o'clock, wboo the Forty-fourth
regimeot having arrived, the Albany men left
the field and returned to tbe other end of the
tunnel. They were not pursued oo account of
tbe darkness. The E> ie men sustained nearly
a 1 tbe injune* and took one prisoner.

Congressman Christopher Columbus Bow?

forger and murderer, sends a telegram to
a morning paper announcing that hil rep'y

all his peccadilloes here been unveil?

journalistic sinner. Pooh! Stealing faro

one would have said a word about it, or

Oar only fear is that Bowen's telegram
may be nothing more than a blusterous at?

When he was only a Radical, he was pub?

said not a word. Why should he be more

And it is passing strange that Bowen sets
no pri?e npon his injured innocence. In
