GRAND OHAKIT ABLE
PRESENTATION CONCERT !
IN AID OF THE
SOUTHERN ORPHAN ASSOCIATION !
(Incorporated by the Legislature of Vir?
ginia, January 30, 1807. )
TO BE GIVEN AT THE
Maryland Institute, Baltimore,
APRIL 30, 1867.
THE profits of this Concert will bo given
to tho Southern Orphan's Association,
to the subjoined address from tbo officers
of which we call the attention of the public:
We. the officers of the Southern Or?
phan s Association, for the maintenance
and education of the destitute- orphans ol
deceased Southern soldiers and sailors,
earnestly solicit tho sympathy and co-ope?
ration in our Grand Presentation Concert,
of all who desire to see tho
"HOME AND SCHOOL"
Enabled to re?oive and care for all the
needy ones who seek its shelter and pro?
tection.
Thanking our friends for their past con?
tributions and assistance, we again appeal
to them to help us in a more extensive en?
terprise. It is the design of this Associa?
tion to erect a "HOME AND SCHOOL" foi
the orphans of tho South, both malo and
female, on an extensive scale, in tho city ol
Richmond, Virginia. As an inducement to
have tho building located there, the Com?
mon Council of that city have guaranteed
a sufficient lof of land, in an elevated and
healthful location, and will increase thc
quantity of land if needed.
It is with a confident hope in a favorable
response to this appeal to a public which
has never yet failed to sustain a charitable
institution, that wo have entered into an
arrangement with Messrs. L. T. PALMER
A CO., No. 13 Holliday street, Baltimore,
to organize a GRAND MUSICAL PRE?
SENTATION CONCERT for its benefit,
and earnestly solicit the kindly aid and pa?
tronage of tho public to insure its success.

It may seem unnecessary to add a single
word to tho above address, but calls noon
tho institution have been so numerous and
pressing, and the straggle through which
it is now passing to widen the oircle of its
charities, ia of such an arduous nature,
that tho management cannot too strongly
urge upon tho humane and pathetic every?
where an active participation in this addi?
tional attempt to alleviate the sad condi?
tion of great numbers of helpless children,
rendered thus by the terrible war through
which wo have passed. And, assuredly,
whatever may have been the relative po?
litical views of ladies and gentlomon here?
tofore, all must agree that tho children
referred to could not, by any possibility,
have had any agency m bringing about
their present deplorable and destitute con?
dition, and are suitable objects for tho
charity of all persons, of whatever shade
of political opinion. The "Home and
School" which they now moro particularly
seek to establish and endow, will be of in?
calculable benefit, by providing not only
food and raimont for these helpless ones,
but likewise solid and thorough education;
thus qualifying them for future usefulness
to socioty at large.
In ordor that this appeal may be effect?
ual in enlisting tho active interest and co?
operation of all classes of persons every?
