4CPiQMt iTiA NY How M?iiES OAHU INTO FASHION. The Lon?8T?Uo industrial Gazette wyn: Few o| the farmers of this country are -aware what a debt pf gratitude they owe George Washington for the introduction of mules into general use? for farm purposes. Previous to 1783, there were very lew, and those of such an inferior order, as to prejudice farmers against them as unfit to compete with horses in work upon tho road or farm. Consequently there were no jacks, and no disposition to in?rense the stock; but Washington became con? vinced that the introduction of mules generally among Southern planters would prove to them a great bless? ing, as they are less liable to disease, and longer lived, and work upon shorter feed, and are xnuoh less liable to be injured than horses, by careless servants. As soon as it became known abroad that the illustrious Washington de sirWl to -tock hio TTIOUUI. Roberts A Co., Atlanta, Ga. Gentlemen: 1 am well pleased with tho result of the uso of the ''Double Refined Poudretto" on my crops. I tried it on both corn aud cotton, and am satisfied wherever it was applied the yield was moro than double what it would have boen without it. I regret exceedingly my not using it more extensively the present year, but will try to mako up my loss by purchasing a larger quantity next spring. I regard it as tho cheapest, most reliable, and easiest man agod fertilizor within my knowledge, and cheerfullv rponmmon^ j* ]-z I hive tned il thoroughly) to the farmers of thia aection, and particularly to those planting cotton, from. the fact of its causing 'it to mature from ton days to two weeks earlier than it would without tho uso of tho Pondrotte. I also used it on mv garden, and found it of much benefit to all kinds of plants. Very respectfully, Ac. G. 8. OGLESB?. Extract from a lotter received from Prof. Martin, of Hampden. Sidney College, Va., dated July 1, 1807: The Double Refined Poudretto is operat? ing like a charm on my crop, and attract? ing uuiveraal attention from all beholders. I am already satisfied that it is the cheap? est and surest renovator of our worn-out lands. - High Shoals, Ga., October 4,18G7. James lt. Dov, Esq. Sir: Tho Doublo Refined Poudrotte I bought for two other parties in connoction with myself-ono of them used it on cotton and corn, and thinks it answered finely; the other put it on cotton, on yery poor ground, and thinks it doubled his crop. I used it on corn. It answered finely, and was thought by the hand that cultivated tho crop to IK fully equal to Rhode's Super Phosphate. I also used it on about an acre of cotton, and I am clearly of opinion that it is tho beat and cheapest fertilizer in use, and I expeot to order Beveral tons this winter. Yours, verv respectfully, ISAAC POWELL. Ellaville, Schley Co., Gu., OcL ?, 1667. The Double Refined Poudretto, pur? chased of you last spring, I think, in? creased my crop of cotton 150 pounds per acre; put it upon worn-ont pine land, at the rate of 200 pounds per acre, drilled in with cotton seed. Yours. Ac, . 8. MONTGOMERY. Salisbury, X. C., August 10, 1807. James R. Dey1Esq. Dear Sir: i eau safely say that your Doublo Refined Poudretto is far superior to any other fertilizer for cotton; for I have given it a fair trial thia season. Yours, JEHU FOSTER, JR. Savannah, Go., September 25, 1807. James R. Dey, Esq., President. Dear Sir: I used tho Doublo Refined Poudrette, bought of you last spring, on corn. I think it increased the yield one half. I consider it an excellent manure Respectfully, T. HOLCOMBE. Ridgeway, S. C., September 21,1S67. Mr. James R. Dey. Sir: I applied the Doublo Refined Pou? dretto by itself, and in combination with other fertilizers, on cotton, and am pleased with it; so much so that it is my present intention to purchase a larger Bnpply of you the next year to apply to my cottou crop. Yours very respectfully, HENRY C. DAVIS. Rocky Mount, Elgecomb Co., X. C. Xov 13. James lt. Doy, Esq. Sir: In reply to your inquiry of the re? sults of our experience in the iiso of your improved Poudrette-purchased of you for this year's cotton crop-wo would beg leave to say that the present season has been ono quite unfavorable to the action of all fertilizers. , Several kinds of manures woro used by us, with tho exception of your Poudretto, with little or no effect to tho crop. Where tho Poudretto was used, it gavo us near half a bale moro per acre, and causod the cotton to open much earlier; and we would, therefore, recommend tho samo as a concentrated manure for tho growth of cotton, as well as improvement to tho soil. Yours, verv respectfully, HENRY P. 8TULT8 A liEO. Address for further particulars, LODI MANUFACTURING CO., Nov ii :$mo 66 Cortland Street. N.
