A little crib beside tho bed,
A little face above tho spread;
A little frook behind the door,
A little ?hoe upon the floor.
A little iad with dark-brown hair,
A little bine-eyed face and fair;
A little lane that loads to school,
A little pencil, el a to and role.
A little, blitheaomo, winsome maid', .
A little hand within his laid;
A little cottage, acres four,
A little, old-tinio, household store.
A littlo family gathering round,
A little, turf-ncaped, tear-dowed mound;
A little added to nia soil,
A little rest from hardest toil.
A little silver in IUB hair,
A little stool and easy chair;
A little night of faith-lit gloom,
A littlo cortege to tho tomb.
Realism has reached its climax in
Australia, where a theatrical manager
thought to produce a fine effect by
introducing genuine cannibals on the
stage. In tho progress of the ploy,
the hero was delivered bound into
their hands, when, instead of going
through the motions, the "first na?
tive" took a good mouth-ful out of
the Captain's leg. The hero howled,
and the curtain fell.
"Sir, you are a fool!" "Do you
call me a fool, air?" !1Yes, err."
"You do, sir?" ,4Yes, sir, I would
call any man a fool who behaves
os you do." "Oh, you would call
any man a fool. Then I cannot
consider it personal. I wish you a
good morning, sir."
One day Mr. C. treated his son, a
wide-awake little fellow of four sum?
mers, to a sleigh ride. The horse
slipped, and came down npon his
haunches, at which the youngster
remarked imperiously: "I don't like
to have the horse sit down to rest,
pa."
An Irishman, newly-arrived, and a
.member of the O'Regan family, was
heard to exclaim, as the steamer
Oregon was passing: "O-r-e-g-o-n?
O'Regan-be jabers! only four weeks
in Ameriky and a shteamboat called
by my name."
A dandy, with a cigar in his mouth,
entered a menagerie, when the pro?
prietor requested him to take the
weed from his mouth, lest he should
learn the other monkeys bad habits.
"Why is a sharp razor like a dull
one? Because the one shaves tho?
roughly, and the other shaves,
tho'roughly. This is certainly a rough
conundrum.
