The dust we tread Shall chango beneath the summer showers To golden grain or mellow Amit, J - Or rainbow-tinted flower?. The granito rocks disorganize To feed the hungry moss they bear. The forest leaves drink daily life From oat the viewless air. There is no deathl The leaves may fall, Thd'flowers may fade and pass away; They only wait through wintry hours The coming of the May.. There is no deathl An angel form Walka o'er the earth with silent tread; He beare ont best loved things away; And then we call them ''dead." e leaves om* hearts all desolate, He plucks our fairest, sweetest flowers; Transplanted into bliss, they now Adorn immortal bowers. The bird-like voice, whose joyous tones Made glad these acones of sin and strife, Sings now an everlasting song Amid the tree of life. And where he sees a smile too bright, Or heart too pure for taint and vice, He bears it to that world or light, ' To dwell in Faradiso. Born unto that undying Ufe, They leave, ns .both to come again; With joy we welcome them-the ?ame. Except in sin and pain. And ?Ter near ns, though unseen. The dear immortal epiriU tread; For all the boundless universo Is life-there are no dead. DISCOVERT OF THE ORIGINAL DOCU? MENTS FOR THE BOOK or GENESIS.-''This is startling news," says Hr. Charles Wel? ford, (in his last letter from London to the Book Boyer of this city,) in giving an account of tho remarkable announce? ment just made by Sit Henry Rawlinson, before the Royal Asiatic Society. It is not merely that this eminent Oriental scholar claims to hnvo discovered the original records from -which the Book of Genesis was composed, but he illustrates his position by details of the most strik? ing kind. Ho himself said: "The progress now reached,in the col? lection and arrangement of the Ninevah inscribed fragments, made it beyond a doubt that they wonld be able to derivo the whole of the history given in the Book of Genesis, from the time of Abra? ham, from the original documents; and it was not too mnch to expect that al? most the same facts and descriptions wonld bo found in the Babylonian docu? ments as in the Bible. He hoped very soon to have ready a paper on the Gar? den of Eden, (Paradise,) in which he would aliow that was the natural name of Babylon. The rivers bore the very same names, and the Babylon docu? ments gave an exaot geographical account of the Garden of Eden. . The flood and the Tower of Babel would ba found to be most amply illustrated in thc Babylo? nian documents." Be not astonished when you seo men of virtue in disgrace, and dignities worn by those who have no right to them. Open your eyes and consider the innu? merable stars which never lose anything of their brightness; but the heavens tnrn, and now the moon, now the sun, is eclipsed. In the depths of the sea the waters are still; the heaviest grief is that borne in silence; tho deepest love flows through the eye and touch; the purest joy is un? speakable; the most impressive prayer is silent; and the most solemn preacher at a funeral is the silent one whose lips are cold. The man who, whether in hiG habits or his actions, in great things or in small, separates himself from his friend, seems to set every evil and envious feel? ing of our nature in array against him. Distinction is purchased at the expense of sympathy. |f Conversation is the daughter of rea? soning, the mother of knowledge, the breath of the soul, the commerce of hearts, the bond of friendship, the nou? rishment of content, and the occupation of men of wit. If family religion were duly attended to and properly discharged, I think the preaching of the Word would not be the common instrument of conversion. [Richard Baxter. It is easier to go six miles to hear a sermon, than to spend one quarter of au hour meditating on it when I come home.-Philip Henry. Men will wrangle for religion; write for it; fight for it; die for it; anything but live for it.-Lacon.
