TH BY JULIAN A. SELBY. CorreHiiBiirtcnco Of the PllCOIllx. Cherokee Springs, Ang. 21, 1874 The time is drawing near when the snrnrnnr resorts, now so overflowing with life and activity, will subside into the quiet reposo of winter, to re? awaken with the opening of another season. Even now the chilliness of night and the dreaming inflnence of the afternoon's snn remind us that the evening of tho year is approaching. The forests will soon be bathed in the varying tiuts of autumn, and then xnnst separate pleasant acquaintances and kind friends, who havo lingered till the last hour, loth to break the tics whioh the companionship of months has formed. Sensible of the approach? ing separation, the attendants at tho various resorts aro making the most of the few weeks that yet remain. Balls and other entertainments?all of which are characterized by the liveliest sense of pleasure?follow each other in ra? pid succession. No night is suffered to pass without dancing, and at all times there is an abandonment to plea? sure, only known to those who fre? quent our summer resorts. Ernst Tues? day night, at thin popular resort, it seemed that the full fruition of plea? sure was realized. Tho ball given by the proprietor of the springs was sue cessful beyond the most sanguine er pectatione. Beauteous girls and gay beaux gathered from far and near The spacious danoing hall, which had been most profusely decorated for the occasion, was soon filled with radiant faces and dazzling costumes; and thon the danoing commenced. Bright smiles and brighter oyes, rivaling the brilliancy of tho lights, rewarded the courtesies of gay cuvuliers, and merry laughter mingled in happy concord with soul-stirring music At 2 o'clock, the joy was nnfliminished. Bright eyes shone brightly still, and happy smiles beamed from the faces of the gay revellers. The Virginin reel, the last dance in the programme, wus an? nounced. Then came the climax of the night's revelry. Louder and more joyous grew the mirth, and when a prolonged strain irom tho band an? nounced the close of tho entertain? ment, k, was an effort to descend from the eostasy of delight to which tho dancers had been wrooght. Long will those who participated in it re? member tho ball at Cherokee Spring?. All praise is due to Mr. J. B. Black, the public spirited and large-hearted proprietor, who was instrumental in getting up the entertainment. Tho number of visitors at the springs is still large, and will bo till the last of September. At no time of the year could a few weeks be more profitably spent in recreation than now, and at no place can life be more pleasant than at this resort. It is pre? eminently a sans sou:i?a plaoe from which care and unhappiness are ex? cluded. Let all who will, come and drink of tho water freely. H. United States District Court? Greenville, Monday.
